Thanks for the info! I checked out his website and read a few articles. Seems to be a very knowledgeable hunter. What specific books do you have? I'm thinking of the Red Fox Focus and Eastern Coyote Challenge.

Yup I have those two books, both very good. good luck with the whatever gun you decide to go with.

I owned the IZH 94 12GA /223 Rifle. they are a kicker , I think it sped up my torn rotator cuff surgery. I used my gun for both daylight and night hunting. I don't get to hunt that much and it never failed , every time I went coyote hunting I seen a pheasants flying all over the place with no shotgun , every time I went pheasant hunting I would see a coyote at 100 yards with no rifle, so I bought the combo gun. I put Burris Fullfield scope on it with see through mounts. Gun shot a honest 1 1/4 inch group. My plan was to look through the see through mounts and shoot flying pheasants while coyote hunting. I just could not get on the flying bird fast enough through the see through mounts. I could only break about 2 clay birds out of 25. I finally sold the gun.
I was at a gun show about 2 months after I sold the Izh 94 combo gun and found some millet scope rings that have a iron sights that are on top of the rings. they quit making them in 2009. I think this set up would work for shooting the shotgun at flying birds. I wish I could have tried this type of set up out before I sold the gun.

If you or any one would like to try this set of iron sight / scope rings let me know I will send them to you and you can see If it will work on flying birds ( clay birds ) and then send them back. I am thinking about buying a IZK 94 combo gun if theses scope rings work. I think it should. I would like the IZH 94 owners thoughts on this subject. marty

Like ARCOREY, I find I absorb recoil pretty well. When I was younger and most kids went deer hunting with .243's and even .223's, I was using a .30-06 and dropped alot more deer than them. I've always been a little large for my height/age.

I've shot hundreds of round through an 870 and an Ithaca M37 (don't own either). The Ithaca weighs 7.6 pounds and kicks like a mule's fetus. The Baikal weighs 8.5 pounds, perhaps over 10 with accessories. What makes it kick so much?
