Rifled slugs in a rifled barrel?

I was wondering if anyone has used rifled slugs in their rifled barrel? I was looking for some cheaper ammo for my 870 12Ga, fully rifled barrel, and came across Remington sluggers in the store and on the box it states that they will be accurate in rifled barrels also. I am almost out of sabots and wanted to sight in this weekend for upcoming deer season, on a budget. What do you guys think?

Hey Scott they my suprise you at how well they shoot, slug guns all seem to be very picky on what brand they like. Get a box of the remingtons, a box of winchester and a box of brennke foster style slugs and I bet on of them will give you good performance. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies guy's,
If I shoot rifled slugs through the rifled barrel, and then go back to sabots later on, will this affect the accuracy of the rifled barrel? I looked at the winchester box of rifled slugs and they say not to shoot them out of a rifled barrel, but the remingtons say it's ok but you may not get the accuracy that sabots produce. I am gonna try some remingtons and some brenneke's I think.

I've never used the Winchesters out of my rifled barrel, but I have used Federal and Remington and they both shoot well. I don't see how it would tear up the rifling or anything using any of the rifled slugs. I would think it would be ok to shoot any of them.

Scott,

Hey, just wanted to add my 2 cents. Regardless of how they shoot you are going to have some pretty bad fouling problems. Conventional slugs have rifling cut into them. This rifling has a rate of twist suitable for the slug. Rifled barrels also have a rate of twist suitable to stabalize perticular style sabots. Chances are those two rates of twist will not match up. Therefor the lands in the rifled barrel will easly cut into the soft lead of the foster style slug leaving a good amount of lead fouling in the bbl. In time this will build up and negate the accuracy of your Saboted slugs. Your barrel may shoot the conventional slug well, but in the long run I believe your better off shootin what those bbl's are designed to shoot. Good luck and safe hunting.

Well stated MI Varmint Hunter. I agree 100% and would not do so myself. This was one one the main reasons I switched to a Knight Muzzle Loader.
