Rimfire truck gun

Smart man.....22WMR's a great round.....especially since they came out with the poly tipped bullets that give them a bit more accuracy for shooting small critters....I'd stick with the ol Winchester Silver Box HP's for small game though.....

If you have to rule out CZ another suggestion that nobody talks about these days but is kind of the quintessential "truck gun" is a good lever action with a peep sight....I just happen to have a little Henry Frontier model with a Williams peep in 22WMR that's as accurate as any 22m I've ever fired out to 75-80 yrds......
Light weight.....fast handling.....quick follow up shots.....holds ten rounds....and reliable as the sun coming up in the morning.....

I have a pile of pix of animals I've taken with mine from Bobcats to Coon to Ground Squirrels at 80yrds that I'd post for ya but I haven't been able to access my photobucket account in a month or more.....

Henry just came out with a sweet little octagon barreled carbine with Skinner sight that's worth a look.....

I bought my wife an old Marlin 25MN for plinking and varmints. I only paid $100 and that thing is a perfect little rifle. Nice steel magazines, shoots everything decent and cheap CCI great, can't recommend it enough. Probably one of my all time best diamonds in the rough.
 
You don't want a tube fed rifle as a truck gun! Get one of the Ruger in 22
Magnum. Ruger magazine beat everything eles!
 
Has anyone mentioned the C-Z 512 WMR? Trigger's not the best, but hopefully someone's working on that.
Or.... When I think "truck gun", I think "lever action". A .22 Mag Henry or a used Winchester 9422M would be good. A Henry pump might work, but not sure how accurate some are.
Too bad Ruger dropped the WMR 10-22; one in the "take down" model would be neat. Or - maybe more of a "survivalist" gun and not rimfire - a Springfield C-Z Scout M6 .22 Hornet/.410 combo.

Haven't been able to get out and look around much this week. Work has got me tied up. Still trying to make a decision between the 22 mag and the 17 wsm. I'd like a 22 mag but I'd like to be able to shoot it and not have to worry about my ammo supply. (Can't find ammo for my winchester 255 lever action as it is) But if i pick up a a clip fed bolt action 22 mag that i like I might pull the trigger on it. I've heard that 22 hornets have had accuracy problems with factory loads. I could load for it I reckon. I load for a .223 already. Anybody know how bad 22 hornets are to load for?
 
The hornet is not bad to reload, the secret is a VLD champfer tool ( I like the RCBS). Use the Sierra 40 grain hornet bullet or the Barnes 30 grain varmint grenade and you are good.A pound of powder will last a long time, I use either A1680 or Lil Gun.
 
I have a b-mag that is a great shooter after putting a boyds stock on it. It is a killing machine great for coons, fox, and does surprisingly well on coyote with the 25 gr bullet. My rifle shoots the American Eagle 20gr the best. $12.50/50 round box ain't bad.

I had the 512. Sold it about 2 months ago. It shot well. I got the Trigger down to 2lbs with a little bit of work, but it still had a lot of pretravel and creep. I sold it because I was sick of looking for ammo, and I have a 17hmr cz 455 varmint. Bought my first deer rifle with the money, a .243 tikka.

I would certainy consider the ruger american if I was getting a new 22mag again. Yeah, cz is good, but it is a little fancy for a truck gun. Or maybe the savage A22

It seems the Bmags are mostly doing ok now.Part of the problem was the ammo, apparently it is more consistent now.

You might wait till after shot show. Hopefully a new 17wsm comes out.

The 22mag ammo disapeared during the first shortage too. Through all of the shortage 17 hmr and 17wsm were on the shelves. I would get one of those or just move to small centerfire, maybe a hornet. The price gouging is crazy too. 22mag is like 17 to 20 bucks a box someplaces. You can get 50 round boxes of fiochi vmax .223 for about 25.

My truck gun is a Marlin 22 mag with a coat of paint to keep the rust off, a Rifle Basix trigger and a 3-9x Bushnell scope. I shoot the Hornady Vamx ammo cause it shoots about 1/2-3/4" at 100 yards, and is what I can find in the stores around here usually. It has dropped everything I've shot with it, including a few coyotes at around 80 yards or so. I have a 17 HMR as well in a Savage 93fv and love it. But the lighter barrel, extra mag capacity and cheaper price made the Marlin my go to truck gun. It lives under my back seat and works out just great.
 
I do have a couple of 15 round magazines for my H&K but I don't use my 22 mag for plinking targets, cans, bottles etc. like I do a standard 22 LR. Because of that, I don't go through a lot of ammo but I understand what you are saying about burning it up with a 30 round magazine!
 
Agree 22LR is my plink'n gun, a 10/22.

Have a Ruger American 22 mag that would make a great truck gun, if i still had the F-150..

On 22 mag ammo, three out of four LGS actually had some on the shelf recently.
Academy had some CCI HP for 12 bucks, haven't seen any on the shelf for less than $15 prior..
 
I will. CZ 512 Tactical. Threaded 16.5" barrel, collapsible stock, Picatinny rail. Shoots Hornady Vmax very well. Perfect, once you polish up the trigger sear.
 
I have found a ruger American 22 mag with a short barrel that I really like. The only thing i worry about is keeping bullets for it. I want to be able to shoot the sucker!!!
17 wsm bullets are easy to find. I'm in a pickle for sure! Might just have to buy both

I'm just afraid that 17 bullet won't hold up and just splash on impact. There's plenty of evidence that they won't on the forum. But i guess I'm a slow learner.
 
Well, I'm a firm believer in, when in doubt buy both!! You gotta admit, there's really no downside, it's win win.

Heck, when it comes to buying guns, I can pretty much talk myself into anything with little to no reasoning at all and when my wife tries to tell me I have an addiction, I politely remind her it's only an addiction if you can't stop and if I wanted to I could stop at anytime it's just that I don't want to right now.

My favorite. The trigger does suck but my gunsmith fixed that issue easily. Mine is very accurate. I also never had a problem finding .22 WMR ammunition online when it was not available locally.

Whalp... I'm the proud (or angry) new owner of a savage b mag 17 wsm. Found one on my way home on sale and made the leap. Just got a scope mounted on top of her. Hopefully i will get to shoot it tomorrow. Man i hope it shoots straight...
