Got the savage skinny barrel b mag turd sighted in this a.m. Not mind blowing accurate but it's gonna be huntable I believe. No 100 yard groups yet. Those hopefully will come this weekend. But at 50 yards it will shoot right with my 22 mag. It will shoot a quarter most of the time if I'm doing my part (half dollar everytime). I'm shooting off the ground with a pair of shooting sticks. I will try to set it on a lead sled this weekend and see how it shoots. The most interesting part was I shot it into a cardboard box filled with news papers and magazines and those Federal 20 grain bullets made it anywhere from about 6 to 8 inches in. I found several poly tips and several very small bullet bases. And a bucoo of fragments. I had to shoot the same box with my 22 magnum. I shot it with 40 grain jhp armscor bullets. Little jokers made it about 9 inches and made two pretty decent mushrooms.

When you shoot 100 groups you might as well leave the calipers at home and take a yard stick to measure them with. Or maybe a 100 foot tape. The 2 bmags I had would shoot 50 yards kind'a so so but stretch them out to 100 and looks more like a shotgun pattern.

No offense meant at all. But golly I hope you're wrong. The 22 magnum part of my brain is still working on me. I don't need it telling me "I told ya so"

The b mag will shoot just fine. Remember this is the inter net! Everyone's CZ is a tack driver! Just remember you are shooting ammo you have now control over, just like they are! But some how? And don't ask me why? But the other guys rifle will shoot
The same inconsistent fire ammo better thanyours rifle will!

Me and the bmag have had a pretty good mornin gettin to know one another. This morning she drew first blood on a grey squirrel. Shot it behind the shoulda at eh... 35 yards. It left about a quarter sized exit. I'm not sure if the bullet will hold together on something bigger like a cat or coyote. Can't wait to find out. I did shoot some 100 yard groups using a barrel for a rest. Again not mind blowing accurate but accurate enough to brain a coyote that far if needed. I could cover almost all groups with two finger tips and some with one finger tip. Take this how you want but i got little hands. I guess they were allabout quarter sized for a little better comparison. Another thing is the barrel is floating down to the base. (Confirmed using a 5 dollar bill.) The trigger is stiff but crisp. Still getting used to the action. All in all I think i might keep the little turd around for a little while.

Believe it or not I shot a coyote right behind the shoulder at right around 100 yards with a Winchester 20gr. V-Max last December and the bullet actually came out the other side. It ran about 25 yards and fell over dead. Later on in the year I shot a grey fox in Texas and the bullet did not exit at around 60 yards. How that happened I have no clue but it got the job done either way.

I'm sorry

Me too.....

Of all the guns talked about in this thread that would have been my last choice.....

Matter of fact...it wouldn't even have been a choice but I hope it works out for you.....

For guys on a tight budget, a Marlin 25M is a whale of a gun, change out the trigger spring with an ink pen spring...very accurate gun.

I love the Ruger 77/22 mag, unreal accurate, I have also had a Browning A bolt that is very accurate, and a Mauser 210.

I currently have a semi auto Magnum Research, don't shoot it much as a grab a marlin 783 tube feed that is a death ray.

I DO NOT LIKE the 17 HMR for coyotes, sorry, watched a few run off, hit perfect. Coyotes do not run off with the 40g Winchester HP in the 22 mag if hit in the lungs, will break a shoulder blade also. My longest shot with a 22 mag, 40g Win HP, is 130 long steps, frontal facing shot, DRT.

I won't even begin to argue against a 22 magnum. Definitely one of my favorite calibers. Maybe even my favorite. Love the winchester 22 magnum i got. It's tube fed and in the near future I will have me a clip fed 22 magnum. Most likely one mentioned in this thread. All rifle suggestions are still welcome. I enjoy hearing about good shooting rifles.
But I have shot that b mag almost 200 times in the past few days and I haven't once worried about where my next box of shells is gonna come from. Several stores have got em. That's what even made me consider that rifle and round. This particular b mag is accurate enough for me. Maybe not accurate enough for anybody else. For me it works. I guess i just got lucky on this one. As for the 17 wsm bullet I don't know yet. Only hunting experience and critters kilt' will tell. Don't expect 22 magnum knock down or penetration but I think it'll handle small game good enough and if a coyote or cat shot arises I'm gonna shoot for the neck or head just like with a 22 mag or 22 lr. Just how I hunt. I don't expect a 17 caliber rimfire bullet to do what centerfire will do. Gonna give her a chance to disappoint or surprise me. If nothing else I can bag on the round with first hand experience. Won't that be fun.

No matter which other guns are along on a trip, there's always a .22M in the truck....always. For me the best truck gun is a Contender carbine. A very safe gun and very easy to handle in the cab of a truck. I've a couple in 22M, one with Super 16 barrel, the other with 20" bull barrel. That Super 16 is only 30" long and scary accurate, Ackleyman has seen it shoot. The 20" barrel is still only 34" long. Very light and stealthy little guns. But you do need to take care and not shoot the rear view mirror. The other 22M truck gun is a 77/22 with 20" straight bull barrel. The 77/22 has a great detachable magazine, and in my opinion the best safety. Thing about a detachable magazine......unlike a tube feed bolt or lever action, or semiauto, with DM you can easily control whether or not there's a round chambered or any live ammunition in the gun.

This is a ruger 77/17 I put a 16" fiber wrapped barrel on it. I believe on the older Rugers you can slip off the 17 HMR barrel and put on a .22 mag barrel. May have to change clip? My barrel change just took an Allen wrench to change. This gun stays in the corner to shoot things on the pond or around the property I need to deal with.

A CZ 455 in 22wmr can be very accurate right out of the box.

This is a cold bore group at 50 yards with CCI 30gr Vmax.

My Marlin loves the Hornady 30 grain Vmax. Shoots them just about like that after I put an RB trigger in it.
