Rock Chucks in South Central Idaho

bigdog are you looking for chuckers or rock chucks? I used to have pretty good luck with rock chucks between Wieser and Council.

I always heard that around twin falls was the best rock chuck shooting in the state. Was I misled?

I always see lots of em between twin falls and mountain home on I-84 but don't know any landowners.

I would love to know where to hunt also.

rock chucks idbob. Where are you from?

I live up near Lewiston Idaho. When I was younger I had a hunting partner that grew up on a ranch near Weiser and we would go down there as often as we could get away from the jobs in the spring and shoot those nice fat chucks of the rock piles near the highway.

I have found a few around Twin Falls but the few I found aren't there anymore. I grew up in southern Idaho and never found any kind of concentration of rock chucks. I found some out toward American Falls. I got nearly 50 shots but only because I was shooting looong range, it was windy, and I wasn't hitting the few I was shooting at. The guys I knew that were able to really get some shooting where on private ranches. Good luck on finding some, private land is going to be your best bet.

Aw, he just trying to throw us off course, Brez. At last count there was a bajillion of them at Twin. He just wants to keep them all to himself. Let's say you and me go shoot us a few of them. I'm almost getting tired of shooting ground squirrels. OK OK, I'm lying about the getting tired of shooting squirrels part, but some nice fat chucks would be fun.

This is what I have also found to be very true. I had a hard time finding many on public property in Twin. But if you can find some land owners around the Glens Ferry area I bet you could do really well on the rivers ledges.

I have some private property secured in my home town in Idaho where you will easily fire 100-150 rounds in a 6-8 hour day.

I have family in Council and usually bring the rifles every trip for pest control.
