rock river arms coyote upper

thinking about getting a new upper. debating on getting the coyote rifle upper or the coyote carbine. does anybody have either one? if so how are your shot groups. im leaning more towards the carbine.

I made my own coyote carbine upper before Rock River ever did, and mine will blow up 20 ounce bottles at will at 300 yards. Never actually shot any groups at that distance though.

Mine at 100 yards will put most everything it eats under or right at 1" 5 shot groups.

I also made a 20" coyote upper as well before Rock River did, and it shoots the same as the 16". I pack my 16" most of the time for the weight savings.

I bang a 6 inch steel plate with my aimpoint which is non magnified optic out to 250 no problems. I have never tried to group it out that far, but I am positive it would group well with the groups I get at 100 yrds.

Don't own one - but, I've been eyeballing one in 6.8SPCII & would be intereasted in accuracty of both calibers - Rock River claim .75MOA in their catalog? Not sure what ammo the test with? I would say; if I could only have one upper - the C.C. 5.56 would be near the top of my list.

My kid has the 20" Coyote and he is getting 1/2" groups with his, I get about the same with my Pred Pursuit 20" I will buy more Rock Rivers in the future.

I have a Predator Pursuit in 20", a coyote 16" as well as a new 6.8 upper A4.

The PP will do 1/2" with either good H/L or she really likes the Black Hills 52 gr OTM in a factory "refurb" round. The coyote is new but it will print at 3/4" consistantly with either black hills or h/l in 55 grain. the 'yote seems to like el cheapo 55 gr Remington FMJ pretty well and will shoot in the 1" block with that stuff.
RRA outperforms thier advertisments.

Have also been shooting a friends 6.8 coyote that I have been trying to get on the shoot til I own it program for the last year. I haven't got a lot of real world work on it yet. With Hornady 115 gr OTM, it shot right at 1" to 1 1/4" (two stage trigger seems a little heavier than the other two but it just maybe a lack of familiarity). He had worked up a couple of 115 gr sierre HPBT loads that 3 shot at 1". All of the work on it was with a fixed 4X scope.

The A4 is going to become a deer killer in the scrub. I want something that handles fast, hits hard, and points like your finger. I have the reloading dies ready and can't wait to work up a good deer load based on 6.8 coyote I have been shooting.

IF i recall correctly, they were using the Black Hills remans and maybe Lake City to do their 3 shot testing.

You can't go wrong with RRA. This is a small family owned company where the owners are right there at the shop. As mentioned above, own one, and you'll own more. I will have a LAR8 in 7mm-08 as well as the 6.5 Grendel when they finally confirm it exists!

Best of luck,

Ted

I have a coyote carbine upper in 6.8 that is a blast and very accurate also...shoots great with benchmark and with VVN133.

I am planning on a new Rock River Arms ATH to reside in my safe very, very, soon. I struggled between the ATH and the Coyote Carbine, but the 18" barrel and a few other things I preferred on the ATH swung my money that direction over the 16" Coyote Carbine.

Some are busting on the RRA 6.8 because of the 1 in 10" twist on the barrel but with the Spc II chamber, you can push the load up without hitting the pressures of the original SAAMI chamber configuration. The "best" accuracy is supposedly coming from the 1 in 11" barrels but I have yet to have any an RRA not excede the web page.

So far, the coyote shoots excellent and I fully expect the A4 (chrome lined adder)to do as well when i get a few loads under test. I want a fast handling deer rifle with a harder hitting round than the slight 223

I'm sure you read a lot on the cartridge as well, and it certainly is a polarizing round. I've seen it labeled as an AR 38 special up to a short 308 Win. I suppose the truth is a little more toward the 308 but I doubt some of the numbers I see out there for velocity.

At any rate, seems like it may give a good deer hunting choice for the BR Fan.

I have a rock river mid-lenght upper with a 16" light weigh barrel.
Even with the chrome lined barrel it is a MOA gun. I'm very happy with it.
