Rock River LAR-8

So, I have a complete LAR-8 lower receiver that was given to me as a gift several years ago. Funds were tight at the time, so it got shelved and forgotten about. I recently "rediscovered" it during a holiday session of gun safe reorganization.

Anyway, I was pondering my options for building or buying an upper to go with it. I do know that the LAR-8 lowers are unique and not compatible with any other uppers on the market, so my options are limited. Would it make more sense to just purchase a complete RRA upper and be done with it, or are there any aftermarket barrels and handguards that can be used on the LAR-8? Any suggestions would be welcome, as I'm a total novice when it comes to the LAR-8 platform.

I have a LAR-8 in 243 it shoots the barrel is like glass. You can get uppers in 308,243.6.5 creedmore(I think)You need RR upper so you need there barrel extension I would go with a complete upper from Rock River. Don't for get the plastic mag or FN-LAR mags pmags won't work.

I was actually looking at the 20" Predator HP upper. I like the idea of the 26" barrel on the Varmint A4, but that would be way too heavy to carry anywhere, with that heavy barrel profile. That's kinda why I was thinking a semi-custom build would be pretty cool. However, if you have to use their barrel extension anyway, you're probably right - its gonna be way easier to just get the complete Predator HP.

You’ve also gotta use their handguards with their uppers. I traded mine off for the reason. It was an awesome rifle. But way heavy and I hate proprietary stuff

I hate the proprietary stuff as well. However, I'm thinking this is probably going to be the only AR-10 pattern rifle I'll ever own, so parts compatibility won't be a deal breaker. This lower was actually purchased in the early 2000's (can't remember exactly when), but at the time, I was fascinated with its ability to take surplus FAL mags. Now that the AWB is history, that particular feature is hardly a selling point but, like I said, it'll be kind of a novelty in my collection, so its not gonna bother me a whole lot either way.

I've pretty well decided on the Predator HP upper, because I'd like a nice stainless steel barrel, but I really don't want the weight of the bull barrel they use on the Varmint A4. That said, it's an AR-10, so I don't expect it to be a featherweight by any stretch.
