This is what has to be done...go directly to the source for answers to the questions. The Ohio DNR is making the regulations and the DNR officers are enforcing them.

I had the same questions, sent the Ohio DNR an e-mail and got a reply...within a week. I got the same reply as Smokin250...No restrictions on magazine capacity or caliber, for varmints.

I won't argue with you fellas but, until I see a change in the dangerous ordnance law I'll just stick with 30 tops. Actually I hunt with a short 10 round mag with only a few rounds in it. Being older and having a few attorney's over the years I know whats best for me.

There good folk's. Not even some of your local L.E.O. Know the Ohio firearms laws. The burden will be on you in any case $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. if you state HERESAY ( they said) in a courtroom it will be a BIG FAIL! Ask for a written letter from ODNR and signed in ink! just lookin out for some. The Toledo Ohio case can be found on the web. God only knows the $$$$$$$$$$$ attorney fee's were.

think hard, very hard......... how deep are your pockets? no you don't get reimbursed for attorney fee's! that's a whole nother case!

actually if anyone in question goes to ar15.com and look's in hometown forums for OHIO. It's a tacked thread on magazine capacity.

just don't want anyone getting into trouble here, maybe not hunting with a BETA DRUM, just havin fun!

remember your average $$$$ attorney retainer will be around $1500.-$2500. in a firearms case! Depending on charges and your area.

think!

I don't even have an AR. i hunt with a bolt gun. So either way i don't care. I wouldn't advise anyone to do it just cuz i said its cool. Now i feel comfortable taking whatever in the woods because i talked to dnr to find all this out. Your correct, heresay will get you in trouble...if anyone has any questions just call dnr. Best easiest way to find out. Cops have zero idea what heck is going on with guns, and hunting. Unless they are an actual hunter they have no clue whats going on. So they typically assume the worst. Now for the people that are going to harass me for that let me say that this is 100% true for every cop, but majority of them i talk to have no clue.

Just call the ones that are gonna give the ticket!and s&w dont feel like you shouldnt have asked the question, I didnt mean to make u feel that way..Sorry

I'll edit my own post by saying the "restriction" on magazine capacity is 30 rounds. Anything above 30 rounds is considered a machine gun and/or requires a Class 3 Weapons Federal Permit...but, you're not allowed to hunt with a Class 3 Weapon, in Ohio.

No problem deathcry. I only asked the question because I couldn't find the answer on the DNR web site. Sure didn't think it would be 3 pages of responses LOL.

Guess I need to pick up a 5 or 10 round magazine. Be nice if pmag would make one. Really like their 20 and 30rd mags.

Sorry to get everyone fired up!..lol They dont tell u everything cause they want to bust u..lol just use your 20!

Hey nothing wrong with asking. I did'nt know about the dangerous ordnance law till about 10 years back.

Back then I had a few AK's and had 75 round drums. A few fellas explained Ohios law to me at a rifle range and I looked it up.
