ruger 10/22 accuracy

My 10/22 out of the box, with open sights, was consistently hitting gophers out to 30 yds. It's a really fun plinking gun. But I'd never consider it adequate for anything larger than racoons.
 
i rebuilt my ruger 10/22 with hogue over sized stock carbon fiber barrel and i can shoot 1/2 groups at 50 yrds. box stock i found it likes remington target bullets it hated cci blazers or anything made buy them its my own personal opinion good luck. check out all the aftermarket for ruger 10/22. good luck
 
Speaking of Ruger10/22's, mine is really an older rifle and I'm wondering if a guy can actually "shoot out" a barrel after "pile" of rounds has been shot thru it? I've heard of this, but do not have the expertise to know if it is worn out or OK. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

with a cheap shotgunscope I had mine so I could nock bowling pins over at 150 yards, I would never try to hit an animal that far but they are good guns

we hit em sometimes out to 175 yds with scoped
22. gotta walk the bullet into em. takes me 5-10 shots
when i do hit one that far. kills em dead with
hollow pts no problem.
notice i said sometimes.

Ric, I have owned my 10/22 for fourteen years and will probably never part with it. Excellent weapon. I have shot small game up to and including large coons at 75 yds with no problem. Use a Bushnell 3x9 scope. I just make sure the coons are head shots. One time I even took a small yote at about 15 yds and multiple chest shots. Ah, 25 rd mags are nice. It is by far the most durable, dependable and accurate semi auto .22 I have ever owned or probably will own.

i have had mine about 24 years and shot it 1,000's of times.
i been huntin and shootin for 30 years but i was never concerned
and was never taught about accuracy-real, consistent learned
accurate shootin.
now i am studying and learning how to REALLY SHOOT.
so now i,m curious what kinda accuracy i can get from it.

Hey fellows i got one late 80's or very early 90's and it has had ALOT of rounds through it , many squirrels have caught the bad end, its one nice shooter, but doesnt like cci stingers, does like some old remington standard velocity stuff i got from my grandfather, maybe 70's ammo im sure.
Bought it new, only modifications are a set of springs i put in the action sometime when it was closer to new.

First the 10/22 is a great rifle, BUT!
You can expect Little in the way of accuracy
from a stock 10/22. 1-1.5"@ 50yd. is about the norm.
Try lot's of differant ammo to find the best, they will very alot. Try the cheap stuff first.
I put a $89.oo Green Mountain barrel on mine and now it shoot's .5" group's.
 
I built a 10/22 with a Butler Creek stock with the integrated bibod and their fluted barrel. Yes, I got one of the good Butler Creek barrels. I can pop .410 shell heads at 75 yards. It is a great little gun. Try the cheap stuff first, but mine shoots good with Remington Target.
 
i also have the factory stock and barrel if anyone wants to trade? looking for varmint items bullets, calls decoys anything like that also looking for reloading items
 
I have a 10/22 with the factory barrel and stock. It has trigger work done to it and a cheap 3X9 scope. With CCI velociter ammo it will shoot 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at fifty yards.
 
I have had one for 15years. The only mods done were 3x9x40, butlercreek folding stock, and four 25 round mags. This gun will shoot 1/2" @ 50yards. And beleve it or not, over 150,000 rounds have been through it.
