I have been thinking of getting a .22 mag and a .17 hmr to play with and if i get the ruger i can use the .22 mag action with the .17 barrel also, have any of you done this and is the accuracy good? If i go this route i am going to purchase bull barrels in both calibers and maybe a thumbhole stock. I would be primarily using this to target shoot, occassional predator, and for a prairie dog gun. Is it very easy to switch the barrels back and forth? All i really need to find is .22 mag action since i will be replacing the factory barrel and stock, any good place to locate a action? thanks for the help

You need to do some research on this forum. I will have all of the information you want. I think you can give up on the idea of finding a 22 mag receiver and just look for a Ruger 22 mag complete rifle.

y r u getting the .22 mag an 17 i would jus get the 17 and customixe it because i have the 17 and i like it bette than a 22mag

no way am i suggesting u shouldnt buy another rifle

I would do some research on Rimfirecentral.com

I think there was some discussion about the Rugar 22 mag action not holding up for some reason with the 17 HMR and that was why Rugar did not release the gun.

Again, I can't remember all the facts but you might want to check it out.

Volquartsen has a new switch barrel combo rifle with .22 mag and .17 HMR barrels. They are expensive but this is one of the best rimfire semi-auto's I have shot. Barrel change out is quick and easy with no tools needed. Just unscrew the alum handguard, pull out the barrel, replace barrel, and screw on handguard. With .22 mag at 50yds will shoot 1/2" groups or better with several different loads. .17 HMR will do 1/2" or better at 100 yds with all .17 HMR loads, 17gr and 20's.

I have the Ruger 10/22Mag that I put a 17 HMR barrel Green Mountain experimental barrel on it & with a little tweaking of the action I have one of the flatist shooting 17 HMR's that anyone would want & the action works flawless. I also built one useing the 77/17 HMR and it also shot excelent and the action worked flawless so go for it you won't be sorry about putting one to geather

The Remington 597 can be bought in 17 HMR and an extra 22 Mag barrel purchased for it. I'm happy with mine. Ruger is having some problems with their 10/22 17 HMR right now. RimfireCentral has the info on it. MI VHNTR
