All,

Just wanted to see what people thought of the target model 10/22's? I have a 10/22 carbin for the wife with a red dot scope and she likes it but i have bad eye sight so i want one for my self and am into more target models with 3-9x40 scopes.

Just have some money to burn and wanted to know if people thought they where worth the money or should i just buy something else.

I have one its fun to shoot. Pretty accurate for what it is. I still find myself wanting to get the bell and Carlson stock and green mountain barrel. It has preformed good never jammed or misfired. I hate to put another $300 in it after spending almost that much for the gun in the first place. Its your call if you are going to leave it alone go ahead and get one but if your like me save the money and get the cheapest 10/22 you can find and get on midway and make it what you want.

Don't know how much they cost but I'd get a plain 10/22 & accessorize it some over spending a lot up front. If your up for spending more how about that new again Browning T-bolt? I just bought a Browning BL-22 lever gun, fun stuff.

+1. This is what I would do, they are very easy to work on and parts are easy to come by. If you get a chance go to Rimfirecentral and see what those guys have built for 10/22's. I have a couple w/ Green Mountain barrels, they are easy on the wallet and very accurate. All depends on how far you want to go w/ the gun, and how much $ you want to put into it.

ps- Rimfirecentral can be both addictive (like here) and expensive..............

Several years ago, several of us local shooters decided to build "Ultra-Light" 10/22s and the concept of "Lego Rifles" was pretty new.... We found some Magnum Research carbon fiber barrels and extra light Butler Creek stocks and this is what I came up with...

Obviously, it wasn't red then, my oldest granddaughter thought it might eventually be hers, so she picked the color...

One thing lead to another and I got into the .17 Mach2 rounds and decided to build another....This is the result, but this one has a Richards Microfit Laminated stock, as the rifle needs more weight for stability due to the longer range capability....It's also equipped with a Magnum Research carbon fiber barrel, as well as a VQ match trigger...

Both are equipped with 2-10x scopes and provide some outstanding accuracy.... Not really 'cheap, but really accurate...

personally I hated how heavy some of the target barrels felt, so I picked up a carbon fiber barrel and an overmolded stock for a plain old 10/22.

Pretty dang accurate now, and I can stand to carry it rabbit hunting without breaking a sweat.

Id say just get a plain one and pick and choose what you want, way too much good stuff out there not to make it how you want it right away.

I have one and I like it. Way back when I was 18 I bought a generic 10/22 and shot the heck out of it then eventually traded it off because I was on to larger center fire stuff. I regret letting go of it but it went to a good home.

I decided on the factory target because buying a stock rifle and doing the upgrades doesn't pencil out. If you do a barrel, stock, trigger then you just threw away 80 percent of a good plinking gun and paid some cash.

The one thing I don't like is that the trigger is junk, especially considering it's a target rifle. Not surprising in this day and age of lawyers but still disappointing.

I've tried various types of ammo in it, including the ones listed in the 10/22 bible. Some are good and others pattern like my Ithaca 37.

Stumbled across some Eley regular old LR fodder and it shoots one hole. [beeep] if I can't find it any more.

Best to just buy one at a pawn shop, gun show or shop that is banged up/thouroghly used...and put it together the way you want it,,,skies the limit.......X

Don't let the word Target in the title mislead you. I had one and shot it some and traded it off. My dad still has his, so I've shot them quite a bit. They are fairly accurate, but nothing special has been done to them to make them target guns. They are heavy, kinda bulky, the barrels look nice with that hammered twist look on them but they aren't special in any way, and neither is the trigger. It just depends upon what you want and/or if you are willing to do some work or spend some extra cash for a special built 10/22. But be careful, building a 10/22 can be addictive and you might end up with a pretty good chunk of change in one, maybe more so than a factory Target Model. But if carefully thought out and put together the custom assembled job should easily outshoot a Target Model 10-22.

Look around over at rimfire central(if ya got a thick wallet...lol)find what ya like,,build it...kid ,volquartsen, boyd, rimfire tech....the list goes on and on....done right you can have a real shooter at 300 or so.....all the way up too a couple grand lol...X

Thanks all i appreciate it. I bought the Target model anyways because it looks nice if i want it to be very accurate i will just pull out my Savage BVSS .17hmr and shoot this thing under the table ha ha. thanks
