I was looking at them the other day at the local gun shop. My first 22 was a 1022 years ago. I like the laminate stock and heavy barrel. I was wondering if they had the same god awful trigger as the regular ones. I know there are a ton of upgrades for the hammer and trigger assembly but i was hoping for the price they would be a little better. If anyone knows any more about them then me i would appreciate the info. There are a lot of rimfire sites but i get alot of good advise on this site,
Thanks Jeff

your probly best getting a used 10/22 then doing your own upgrades.

The target has the same trigger as the rest, also that nice looking hammer forged barrel is chambered the same.

it's cheaper in the long run with a good cheap used 10/22 the adding KIDD, Volquartsen, ect. parts.

The factory triggers can be worked down as I've done a few.

There not the easiest to slick up though

A shooting buddy who is also on this forum has one. Using match ammo I have personally put 4 out of 5 touching with it at 100 yards. Most .22 rimfires at 50 yards would be really doing something to have that kind of performance. I tried to buy it off of him for more than he paid for it (he bought it used) but he wisely refused. Hey Kevin- the offer is still good if you want to take me up on it!

Rustydust, its not nice to outshoot a buddy with his gun and then try to buy it off him. It is one that I'm hanging on to for a while. And I favor bolt action .22 rifles, but this one does shoot good in capable hands.

Actually, I think the Target model does have a better trigger. If you asked over there, you would get an answer from somebody that actually owns one (not me) that could tell you exactly how "improved" it is.

Evil Lurker, Yes it does have a better trigger than the standard models. About half the pull weight, but I still put a Volquartsen in it. I had a standard that I never shot, bought it in 1986 sold it last year. I don't think I shot a brick of shells through it.

Heavy Barrel? My uncles 10/22T looks identical to my Regular 10/22 with the only deffrence being the 10/22T has a 22 inch barrel and mines 18.

Yeah, that's what we're hearing on the other site. I put a Volquartsen hammer and sear in my standard carbine, then I put a PC hammer and sear with setscrew in the other one.
They both feel about the same, pull-wise, but the adjustable sear lets you take all the pre-travel out. If you want a "precision" drop-in trigger for around $75, I'd recommend that route.
If you want to spend less, just the VQ or PC hammer will work nicely for around $30. The new Ruger hammers have the bushings cast right into the hammer (unlike the old ones) so you'll need a set of old-style hammer bushings, too.

The 10/22T has a heavy hammer forged barrel. It is a different barrel than the carbine.

well. They have the same trigger period! The modern Target still uses the aluminum housing, others plastic.

Compared to a 10/22 before plastic theres no diff in pull weight.

Get an older model 10/22 and start from scratch. If you get serious with these things you'll end up pitching 75% of the factory parts, been there done that!

your best off heading to rimefirecentral.com for the in's and outs on a 10/22.

Well, we did. Follow my link above. So far, both the people that actually own one said the trigger was better than the stock 10/22, but not as nice as a good aftermarket setup.

We're not talking about the trigger housing, we're talking about the hammer/sear set.

I'd shoot it first and see if it was going to be okay or not.

Yeah man just build your own. Got to Rimfirecentral.com to find out everything there is to know about 10/22's

The trigger in the 10/22T and the Charger is a lot better than the standard 10/22. I did change the trigger in my 10/22 to the Volquartsen but I am satisfied with the trigger in the Charger just the way it is.

I had a 10/22 Target in blue and my dad still has one in stainless. Both of those are older guns. Dad and I also have a pair of older 10/22 Deluxe Sporters with checkered walnut stocks and the skinny barrel, no barrel band. The Targets have a lighter trigger than the DS models... but just as creepy. The Target trigger has plenty of room for improvement.

The trigger is easily "fixed" by installing an after market hammer, like the Power Custom. No need changing the sear as the factory sear works OK.
I have eight Ruger 10-22's and have upgraded all of them.
I learned all I know about 10-22's over on Rimfirecentral.com
No need changing any springs either.
I do like the Factory target barrel with the swirls.
