Ruger 44 carbine?

I have a chance to pick up a ruger 44 mag carbine for a good deal...Does anybody know how reliable these guns are .I have a 44 mag pistol and just figured that it would be a nice ranch gun....Any info on this rifle would be greatly appreciated....

I just passed up an opertunity to buy one myself they are very sought after from what I see have shot a couple times. They seem to be very accurate from what I have seen and reliable.

My dad has one and it has been a great rifle. He has had it for as long as I can remember and never had any problems even with hot reloads.

HERE is a pretty decent review on the rifle...The few people that I know that have them have very little negative to say that I've heard..

What would you use it for? Shorter range hogs, deer? My neighbor has one, maybe O.K. if a great deal. They never really impressed me for some reason. Other than that the common 308 would be a better choice.

They are a great hunting rifle. Is it a newer Deerfield carbine with the removable rotary magazine or an older model?

I've got a removable mag version I bought new in the 2000 when they came back out and it's my favorite hunting rifle. I've got a nice collection of high power rifles but the .44 mag is a deer hammer...the heavy bullet seems to expel most of it's energy in the deer rather than passing right through like some of my .270 shots have at closer ranges. I've shot deer from 10yds to 120 yds with it and they all dropped within eyeshot. Mine is very accurate and has light recoil, the newer version had the Ruger base cuts in it that makes solid scope mounting a breeze and even with all the use mine has seen I still haven't had a magazine problem with it and I shoot mine often.

Buy it!

Have the lever model 96/44, It shoot great. Sure will put a whitetail down. I bought the lever because some states will not let me deer hunt with an auto.

I Believe its a older model ...I would use it for hogs and running bear and cats.I am sure its going to be a gun that I have for the long ranch trips... Its hard to pass up at 175....I looked them up and there not super expensive ...I would love a lever but can't find one I can afford...Its in about 90% ...Guy used it for bear protection on his ranch riding horse back ...so I scooped it up ...just wondering how hot of loads I can run thru it

Get it! I had the Deerfield carbine and loved it. I put a low power scope on it and it was a great hog gun. I could load it up (4+1) and have 5 dead hogs in no time. The only thing I didn't like was the capacity, other than that it's like an M1 Carbine on steroids!

I have the newer version with the removable ruger box.It is a great shooting gun I bought mine for a deer trip I never ended going on and it sits in my safe.nice light rig.
