Ruger 77/22 Hornet vs. H&R single shot

Honestly? I dont think I would go with either. If I were buying a hornet check out savages m40. Its a single shot. Or the new savage m25 walkimg varminter. Both will be shooters and the latter is a repeater bolt gun.

Go with the 77/22 with laminate stock and stainless barrel/action and never look back! Maintenance free & a good chance this will be the best rifle you'd own!

I have the H&R in the hornet, I really really like mine, but Like I said in a previous post, the price on these has gotten a bit out of hand. 260 bucks will get you very close to a decent bolt gun and unless you like them like I do you are better off just saving up for something more to your liking. If they were still the bargain they were when I first started collecting them, Id say go for the H&R and see but they arent so I wont LOL.

Bottom line, mine shoots good, its what I wanted so money well spent. If you want a bolt gun, get one dont settle on something just because its cheaper, the trade in on handi rifles is pretty much crap.

I have a bolt and a TC. I Prefer the TC. It is the only chambering I have in the TC right now. It shoots really well. Bought the reciever and barrel at different times. Then found the buttstock at a local gun shop used. Actually the barrel is the only new part. Still ended up with $500 in it, but I sure like shooting it.

A good chance it could be the most aggravating rifle he owns as well. Mines fine for a coyote at 100 yds. But a squirrel has a pretty good chance of walking away, unscathed.

I'm in this camp. Maybe I'm just unlucky and end up with all the lemons from Ruger. But, I won't buy another Ruger (except for their .22 LR's). Just too much work to get them to shoot decent groups.

Go with the CZ or Savage, a lot less work involved to find a load that shoots good. My .02 cents.

CZ's are a safe bet on obtaining a shooter. Ruger's are better looking and I like the rotary mag but have had issues. Guys who have a shooter love em and the one's that don't shoot have some very frustrated owners. Turned my Ruger Hornet into a 17AH and it is a sweetheart of a rifle. It was a mediocore shooter before the rebarrel job.

I have a H&R SB2 ultra....its in 223, not the hornet, but I will tell you about the single shot......It is a stone cold tack driver!!!

I actually find myself carrying it more than I do my AR15 for predator shooting. Off the bench @100yds...it shoots one ragged 1/2 hole with factory ammo (Fiochi 50gr VMAX...at cabelas). I have one also in 270 that has accounted for a lot of deer down in TN and AL.
