Went today to buy the savage model 11 trophy hunter package with Nikon scope but couldnt find one anywhere close. Instead I bought the ruger american in .243 cal. with Nikon scope same as the savage package. Havent got to shoot yet but was wondering how many of you own or have shot this model Ruger and what is your likes and dislikes?

I thought it was 3 lug. I met a guy at the range who got one in .308 for his son and was dialing it i.

Very light gun. I didn't look over his groups but he was quite proud of it

I'm contemplating buying that same Caliber Rifle....read in a few magazines that they are some really nice shooting and accurate Rifles!Might have been Outdoor Life....they said there were a great value, very well made, and the barrel length was ideal for the available Calibers!

I was thinking about using a lighter grain ballistic tip bullet, putting a Leupold matte black scope on it and use it as a Predator/Coyote Rifle!

Let us know how well it performs....!

The American has a 3 lug bolt, UN-LIKE the regular Ruger; THUS the short bolt lift.

Well got to shoot my Ruger American .243 today and I must say I'm really happy so far. I do need a little more adjusting on my scope but overall I give it a solid A grade. This is my first Ruger and if everything stays as is I will probably buy more of Rugers products.

Alot of people say they dont have any luck with Rugers..I guess I have been pretty lucky though as I have been able to get mine to shoot fairly well for sporter weight guns.

Went out to shoot the ruger american .243 yesterday and was consistently getting groups in the .725 range @ 100 yards. Was shooting hornady 58 grain factory loads. So far so good!
