Ruger American chambered in .308.

Ive had several .308s over the years and all of them have liked the Hornady 110gr V-Max over some AA 2015 seated to 2.750" OAL.

It probably won't be pretty no matter what you shoot them with, so to get started you could just use some cheapie-chugger hunting ammo. My .308 likes the entry level 150 grain ammo from Winchester and Federal.

I would second DesertRam's suggestion. I have the American in 308 and it shoots 150 gr Federal Power-shok's very well. I use it for Whitetail Deer. You may have trouble finding a varmit load that is readily available unless you reload or know someone that does. Good luck and enjoy your new rifle.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the lightest I have seen so far were 120 grain reduced recoil loads. May reload down the road, saving the brass for now. First box at the range was 150 grain Remington Core Lokts and they were all over the place, which was a little surprising. Was still fun to shoot though.
