Ruger American predator 6.5 Grendel ?

I’m a big fan of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge and have four AR-15’s chambered in 6.5 Grendel. I had been interested in a 6.5 Grendel bolt action for a couple of years. I had been unable to decide between the Howa Mini Action and the Cz 527 American in 6.5 Grendel. I had never found either rifle in person but I was in a gun shop in Southern Indiana that had the Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Grendel on the shelf. I liked the 22” threaded hammer forged barrel and the stock fit me. Now I’m trying to decide which of the three I would purchase.

Something happened which I never expected. I went into a Friend’s local gun shop and notice a new addition on the rifle rack. I picked it up and it is a Cz 527 in 6.5 Grendel, I just never dreamed I’d see a Cz 527 6.5 Grendel in person. Come to find out a Friend had the Cz on consignment. The seller made me a deal I could not refuse. I’ve shot the Cz a little bit and so far I really like it. Honestly I think I could’ve been just as happy with the Ruger or Howa. Each rifle has it’s own unique features which make them all very appealing.

The Cz is my first centerfire bolt action rifle. I have shot centerfire rifles a lot as I used to sight in rifles for customers at the local shop. If you like the features of the Ruger I say buy it. The 6.5 Grendel gives up 200 FPS to a typical 6.5 Creedmoor but the 6.5 Grendel still is an effective mid size game hunting cartridge. The 6.5 Grendel is very pleasant to shoot and only uses 32 or less grains of powder. The availability of 6.5 Grendel brass has greatly improved as has factory ammo. I put canted scope mounts on my 6.5 Grendels as they are fully capable of shooting targets out to 1000 yards +.

The reason I wanted a bolt action 6.5 Grendel is I’m already heavily invested in brass, bullets and suitable powders. I’ve considered buying a 223 bolt action rifle but I just really wanted something with better ballistics. I considered the 260 or 6.5 CM but really never thought I’d shoot it enough to justify the purchase.

I only shoot past 300-400 yards a couple times a year. The 6.5 Grendel allows me to shoot at a 1000 yards when I shoot long range with my buddies. There are better cartridges for 1000 yards but I like the challenge.
