Ruger American Predator

Thanks for the replies. I am still looking at the rifle. What I like most about the rifle is the cost and weight.....if it shoots. I can handload for it so that could solve any potential accuracy problems but without seeing many other accuracy fixes available for it (stocks, etc.) I'm a little leary. I would love to find a 700sps in 204 but haven't been able to find one. I'm good to go on heavy barreled varmint rifles so I'm trying to find a sporter weight walking varminter. The CZ 527 or Tikka would work but I have an extra sporter 700 short action medalist sitting around so a 700 would be my first choice if i could find one. Decisions, decisions.

I've been around many Ruger American rifles and have yet to see one that was not a sub moa rifle. I personally own a 223 and it is averaging .75 moa groups with my handloads. Yes the stock flexes some but the action sits in v blocks and the system works. There were problems with the original design of the .223 mags that caused feeding issues but those problems are being fixed, if you get a rifle with the faulty mag Ruger will replace it quickly at no cost.

Are these rifles premium quality one hole shooters... no but for less then 400 bucks they are hard to beat. I would personally rank them well ahead of the Mossberg ATR, Marlin XS, Savage Axis, and the Remington 770 and 783. This is just my personal experience and maybe I have been lucky enough to only be around accurate Ruger Americans.

I have a RAR Predator in 25/06. It's shooting sub minute right out of the box with Rem Core Lokt ammo. I've set up literally dozens RAR's in the last couple of years and Ive shot several myself. All have been moa performers or better with factory ammo. I can't wait to start hand loading for the 25/06, I'm betting its a 1/2 minute rifle!

Mine was cheap and accurate. But the quality is junk. The stock is flimsy. The bolt will catch on brush and eject your bullet since it opens with the safety on.

Mine also has feeding issues for the first round if the mag is full.

How did you get lucky enough to get a hold of the 25-06? That was a very small run of dealer specials, not even offered or listed as part of the current production.

You are correct, they were uncataloged and produced in a very limited run. I work at my LGS part time. The owner is a buddy of mine and he managed to get two from one of our distributors. He kept one and.......gave me the other!

They are great guns for the money. I got one of the first 308's out. Mine will shoot pretty much anything 1" or better. It really likes my hand loaded 210 match kings. It runs them 1/2 moa or better.

A lot of manufactures make them so the bolt will open when it is on safe.
