Ruger Hawkeye Vs. Savage Varmint LP

Ron I own a savage bvss 22-250. It has a 1:12 twist.Shoots 50 & 55 gr v max into very tiny holes.Looking at savage site the lp does come in 1:12 twist also. For lighter and heavy pills as well. Mine weighs 10 lbs wo scope . Love the model 12 savages own 2 at this point , other is lrp 243 semi-custom.My vote goes for the savage. As others have said they are always ready to customize if you so desire. New $1200 used $700 - $900 if you look.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who replied. I ended up going the custom route. After much thought and everyone here's advice I ordered:

Remington Short Action
Krieger 6mm Remington Varmint contour barrel 1-7.5" twist
McMillan stock

I'm probably going to order the CDI bottom metal for AICS Style mags and i'll end up with a one of a kind shooter.

I fell in love with .243 at the range the other day and I don't think I'll be sorry with my choice when she's all done.

Thanks again,

Ron

Great choice!
Lots of great bullets available and your 7.5 twist will shoot all of them up to and including the 115's.

UPDATE: scratch the .243 rig. Unfortunately I had a less than pleasant experience with Buds on this one. Somehow while comparing the Savage Target action to the Remington 700 action the Savage Single Shot Left Load Right Eject Target action was ordered in place of the Remington action I wanted. Buds charged me $75 to give it back and I don't really think the error was on my part, but I could have fat fingered it. The point is I called them before it even shipped as soon as the email came in saying what I ordered and realized it wasn't what I expected it to be. All of this was to no success as Buds told me it doesn't matter if the Action never even moved from it's original position it was electronically reserved for me so it has to be electronically re-stocked. HA! What a load of bull. Anyhow I was able to scrap the entire project before it got too far with the other manufacturers. In it's place I have a Remington SS LA .470" bolt face on it's way and my heart is set on a 25-06 rig that you can now follow the progress of here:
