Ruger M77 bolts

So the newer Hawkeyes and mk ii’s are controlled feed but the older ones are push feed with a claw extractor, can I just get a new bolt and put it into my old rifle? Heard Ruger used to do the conversion for a small fee a while back. I’m making a 35 whelen for a Alaska do all rifle and found a SUPER cheap deal on an M77 30-06. Barrel change, chamber, cerakote and laminate stock she should be set. But I’d prefer a controlled feed though the claw extractor is a HUGE plus to the little wimpy ones.

I did just a little searching, very little, and what I read, its really not feasible nor cost effective to even try the conversion. It said it would require one he11 of a machinist and deep pockets too. I'd go to plan B.

Costs would be about the same for the Mauser getting a barrel and stock or the m77. Except the Mauser would be almost double the M77 and need the bolt handle modified and drill and tapped. I can do the work myself so no labor and free cerakote. I’d read a forum from a few years back of a guy sending his to Ruger to have the work done and it was $75. Welded on the ejector, cut the feed ramps, and gave him a CRF bolt. I’m just asking here to see if anyone else has heard of it. I called but they were closed so I’ve gotta wait the weekend.

If I can’t have controlled feed it’s really not too bad. Feel a lot of the issues with the PRF to CRF are just myths and what ifs.

My Alaska rifle has alway been a Remington 660 in 350 Remington Mag.
Four years ago, I found a 1974 Ruger M77 in 338 Win Mag.
That was before they changed barrel makers. It is a nice rifle.

Solved my issue. A guy bought my M77 for elk and I found a deal on a newer mk ii with all that I wanted. I need my FFL so I can save on these transfer costs. As for Ruger doing the swap I read that they quit doing that awhile ago but I’m still gonna call Monday because I’m curious.
