Ruger M77 Hawkeye Sporting VS Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe

I am currently in the market for a 243 varmit rifle. I was wondering what others have to say about the guns listed above. Ruger would be sporting model in stainless with nut meg stock. Weatherby would be Deluxe in stainless with walnut stock. Thanks for looking.

In all fairness, the stock Weatherby trigger is probably not much better. Probably most stock factory guns need some kind of trigger work. I put a Timney trigger on my son's Weatherby, didn't take much time with only a little bit of sanding work with my Drimel. He bought directly from Timney and it came already pre-set to the trigger weight he wanted.

Thanks for the info, not to worried about the trigger for now just wanting some info on how they shoot, accuracy and what kind of ammo they you feed them

From a pure accuracy standpoint I think the Weatherby has a slight edge. I have had both rifles in deer hunting calibers and the accuracy is good to excellent, having taken deer at 400+ yards with each rifle. What you feed them is anyone's guess. Twist rate will be appropriate for bullets to 100 grains so varmint bullets are no problem. Overall I feel that the Weatherby rifles I have owned have been less finicky about ammo.

You really can't go wrong with either rifle. Get the one the has more eye appeal and have fun.
