Ruger M77 Mark II All Weather Ultralight

I ran into one of these today at the gun store that was on clearance. They are asking $469 and it includes bases and rings. The caliber is 204 ruger. I thought this was a decent price. It is stainless with a 20" barrel and weighs around 6 1/2 lbs.

I have been thinking about getting a 204 but I was really wanting the LVSF in 17 Remington. I found one for $600. I thought this ruger was one hell of a deal, but am worried about the trigger.

Has ruger started to make an adjustable trigger that is similar to a Rem?

I want something really light and quick. I will use it mainly for woodchucks, but have started to chase coyotes. Someday I may start fox hunting. I realise that asking all of this from one gun may be alot. I was hoping that I would be able to use reduced loads on fox. In reality though I will shoot more woodchucks than foxes, and range could be up to 300 yards. I want something that has no recoil and alot less report than my 243.

Basically I need you guys to help me decide b/w the 204 Ruger in M77 or the 17 Remington in Rem 700 LVSF.

The new Rugers are supposed to have a better trigger, but not adjustable. Figure on another 70 to hundred bucks to put an adjustable trigger in it. Once in a while you'll get a good trigger in a Ruger, kind of the luck of the draw though. I have a set of instructions to work them over and it does a fair job, but you still will have an overtravel problem unless you drill and tap and install a screw to control the overtravel.

This year Ruger has announced a new trigger, but still not adjustable, no telling if it's on the one your looking at or not. They are a great gun except for the triggers.

I've got a CZ in 204 Ruger and it's a great cartridge. Accurate as the dickens. I don't know how heavy the Remington LVSF is but I have a 26 inch bbl VSF and it's way to heavy for much more than a ground squirrel gun, probably over 11 pounds with the scope.

I like Remingtons and most of the guns in the safe are that brand, but I'm sure getting impressed with the little CZ's

17 rem is good choice rounds are a little expensive but i think that the 204 would be a better choice its awesome for coyote sized game and doesent ruin pelts 17 rem is a little light in my opinion for yotes but alot of people wont agree
i would go with the 204 its a little heavier for coyotes i think the the 17 and 204 are about the same balistically. its all about what youre main purpose for the gun is..

You won't be dissapointed with the Ruger, they are built like a tank! The trigger is easily fixed by a gun smith,or after market trigger.A friend of mine just purchased a M77/stainless,with a synthetic stock,in .223 cal. We did a trigger job on it,and it breaks at 2 lbs.clean, like a glass rod. The gun has had around 50 rounds through it,and already is shooting 1/4MOA@100yds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hard to beat for the money!

I have a M77 All Weather in 223, not ultralight, but I love it. It is light, compact, and a beautiful rifle. It is also very accurate. I love the way it shoots. You won't be disappointed. I have been wanting a 204, and I would buy it. Hey, it isn't located in Illinois, is it? If it was I would maybe have to go steal it out from under you!!!

Is it safe to assume that the report of the 204 is the same as the 17 Remington? How about muzzle jump?

Really am just looking for a fun little cartridge for target, and varmint. I do reload, that should make it easier for me to find a decent load.

I haven't used a 204 or a 17, so I only know what I've read about them.

But, I have had (and wish I had NEVER sold) a Ruger 77 Mk II in .223 . It's an EXCELLENT rifle, EXTREMELY accurate!

I must have been "off my med's" or somethin' when I sold it...

Hunt Safe!

I own one of each and the rifles are both very accurate. The Ruger Stainless LW is in 204 and the LVSF is in 17 Rem.

Also, the cartridges are not anywhere near alike as portrayed by folks who have never shot either one. Each one serves a similar but different purpose from the other one based on their individual characteristics. IMO they're both worth having.

As with most cartridges, you need to reload both cartridges to get all the benefits they have to offer. Factory ammo in both cartridges can be improved on significantly in the accuracy department by reloading. And both are cheap to reload.

I just bought one at a gun show last
weekend. The trigger is crisp, I haven't
shot it yet as I am waiting on a scope.
The dealer had $399.00 on it and he sold
it to me for $400.00 tax included. Light
weight.
