Not real sure but have a old tasco 40 mm scope with ao and set it in the rings today just to check and the muzzle end was pretty close to hitting the barrel.Dont know if its right or not but the rear mount seems to be a little higher than the front any info

receiver is sized different between the front and rear so you actually use 2 different sizes. your gun is right, and it has a medium set of rings.

as long as the scope isn't touching, you're good. i like a minimal gap between barrel and scope... some like higher. as long as it is comfortable and not contacting, screw it down and go shoot it.

Finaly got a scope ordered today.Went with the nikon buckmaster 6x18x40,I know its not a nightforce or leupold for all you diehards but like I said before I am on a budget. And besides found out a couple months ago I have parkinsons disease and the way I shake now I am lucky to hit anything but what the he!! always wanted to try longer stuff so I am going to try it why I still can.Any one recomend a good factory ammo to start with and get sighted in with till I get all my loading stuff. Thanks P.S If any one is intersted there is astore on ebay called the knife store that has these scopes for under $300.Thought it was a pretty good deal $290.00 shipped

Dakota, nice testing that was some great info there and a great post.I always load my own just got to wait till brass and dies come. Whats a good bullet to try to start with, any experience with the 105 amax.I am pretty sure my gun is a 1in9 twist. Will the heavier stuff stabalize in it

i load 105 a-max's in mine - it stabilizes them just fine.

here's another link on what i do w/ a new rifle. don't know if it will be of use to ya, but maybe...: www.baitshopboyz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=18014&PN=5

i did the same thing w/ my ruger vt, except i used atomized stainless steel in the epoxy in a 1:1:1 ratio. turned out extremely well, but i can't find that particular post w/ the pics.

anyway, rugers respond well to bedding.

good luck!

Dakota, awesome post,That is something I was wanting to learn how to do.I ll give this thing a try when I get everything and see how it does and then give it a try if needed. Thanks for all the help!!

anyone have any good feedback on brass and bullets that can help me get started on a good load.Scope should be here tomarrow.Hopefuly might get to try it out this weekend

If I aint mistaken you use a low and med to make a low
a med and high to make a med, and a high and a super high
to make a high.Best thing is, if you need to move it up you only need 1 ring.
I think each height moves 'em up .150........
yeah the ruger rings are a hassle if all your others are not
rugers.....
I like the ruger rings myself they really stay put....
Hey a m77 in a .243 sounds sweet..
