Well, it's in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I had a gunsmith buddy take a crack at it because I just couldn't set aside the time (too busy at work and renovating the in-laws' house) to do it patiently. He got the trigger in, but couldn't make it fire while installed in the stock before he had to depart for a MN fishing trip. It was obvious to us that it was a problem with inletting - it was binding up somewhere. I took over from there, and messed with it for a couple days. By removing some more wood and some (actually quite a bit of) metal from the trigger gaurd, I finally got it working, sort of. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif It would fire, but not when a cartridge was chambered. I was at my wits' end, and with our bear hunt coming up in just two weeks, I was starting to get a little anxious.
I talked with the Timney tech over the phone, and we agreed that it was still binding somewhere, but I just couldn't find it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif He offered to finish the install, but couldn't promise that it would be done and returned by the 28th, even if I shipped it overnight to them. I really wanted it fixed in time for Mama to get some trigger time before the hunt, so on Friday I bit the proverbial bullet and drove to Phoenix. The Timney guys were awesome! I showed up on their doorstep at 10 AM and an hour later I walked out with a fully operational rifle. In addition to completing the installation, they cleaned up the trigger, eliminating what little creep it had and lightening it to a nice crisp ~2.5 pounds or so. What a dramatic improvement over the factory Ruger POS! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I've really got to hand it to Timney, they know about customer service. When it's time for my next trigger upgrade, it'll be Timney all the way. And now that I have an example to work from, I may just try my other Ruger M77 tang safety.
