I am considering buying a Ruger P944 .40 cal. Anyone own one or any opinions on this model? Thanks,

You can start a lot of arguments about caliber and pistol... Ask aboutboth and "OH BOY"... Ford v Chevy is less likely to cause a fight...LOL
That said... I much prefer a .45 in a defensive handgun.
Ruger makes some very good pistols... I'm happy with my Gov't model .45s so I wo'nt want anything else, But, I think the Ruger is a good choice if you like the feel and pointability for you.

I like the 40 as a defence weapon ( I got a couple ) stagger the mag with hollow points and solids makes for a bad day . I am not however a ruger fan we have P89s at work and they are not the best my opinion , like stated above if it feels good and you like it then our opinions should not be a factor .

I was thinking specifically about function and reliability of this particular model, not looking for a caliber or brand comparison, I know what's out there and the pros and cons of the .40 cal, I just have an opportunity to buy this particular model and cal at a good price. Thanks for the responses.

Well most will agree that the Ruger autos are quite ugly, have sub par ergonomics and weigh as much as a tank. That being said, for as bad of a rap they get they seem to function just fine. I personally think there are better choices in that class. I guess I would let the cost decide if you like the gun.

I had a p94. I did a trigger job and ten years later I have yet to see any other
.40 rival it in accuracy. I just didn't like the clunky robo gun feel and I compete
with 1911's so I had no use for it. My carry is a glk 27 so I do not have any
complaints about the 40 cals. The rugers are also a fully supported chamber
so you can reload hot at will with no case life worries.
