Ruger Super Blackhawk Front Sight Problem

I bought one a year ago. Darn thing shoots high and I had a chance to stop by and visit with a top notch gunsmith today. I was telling him about it and he said Ruger put the wrong front sight on a bunch of them. I had mine with me and he measured it. It was .495" high and the one that is supposed to be on there is .595". He ordered me one. If any of you have had that problem, this is why. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

A friend of mine has one and the front sight is on crooked. WAY CROOKED. Someone must have been asleep at the wheel.

It happens, my Kimber 1911 Tac Pro shot 18" low at 25 yards when I first bought it. Kimber makes three barrel lengths for the 1911, 3", 4", and 5" guns. My 4" had the wrong front sight. I sent my slide back to Kimber and they replaced the front sight with the correct one and it shot spot on afterward.

The front sight isn't hard to change . I replaced the front sight on my Ruger SB with a fiber optic it only took about 20 min, taking my time because i had to drill the hole in the sight for the roll pin .

I hope you have better luck getting it replaced than I did on a .357 Blackhawk years ago.

It would shoot 6" high at 25 yards on the lowest sight setting. I sent it back in to Ruger to be corrected. They said it was fine, and sent me a target they shot with it. All the holes in the center of the black. The only problem was that they had to take a 6 o'clock hold 6" low to do that. That's a great way to have to shoot at rabbits, groundhogs and tin cans with a western style revolver ...... aim 6" low. LOL

My opinion of Ruger has not been good since.

At least you can see the whole target... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You just need to back up to about 175 yrds before you pull the trigger is all

Ruger is not doing it. My gunsmith is, he is one of the best in country. He does some work in conjunction with Dan Lilja. They live in the same town. Outstanding men of character btw.
