Running full house .223AI loads in non-fireformed brass?

kelbro, My experiences paralleled that as well.

ALL my AI's are throated so as to be able to get the bullets in the lands and comfortably feed from the mag-box. I really can't imagine a guy building a rifle and not knowing/giving consideration to the throat when rebarreling/rechambering a rifle???? I took the time to work up this FF load rifle as well, it isn't numbers I pulled out of a hat. ALL my bullets that I shoot in ALL my rifles are started in the lands, I also moly ALL my bullets that I shoot in ALL my rifles. For all of my AI's I've not gotten crisp shoulders until I started getting toward upper end load data for the parent chambering.

If some of you other guys can run mid range load data and get perfectly formed cases....That is excellent! Nothing is an absolute, I just haven't had any luck getting 100% formed shoulders using mid to low end data.

"Start low and work up" is a reloaders mantra that makes it easy to stay out of trouble (regardless of the chambering). If a guy chooses not, or is unwilling, to do that then he likely needs to sell his reloading equiptment and stick to buying factory ammo from his local shop. I realize that common sense isn't all that common any more, but I still figure that most guys on here do have their fare share of it.

We're all throwing our 2 cents in here as well so we might just as well post up exactly what we ARE running for 223AI FF loads. Curious to see where the rest of you are at?

This load is used in 2 of my 223AI's (and shot dang good in some of my other SAAMI 223s).

223AI FireForm load
Unformed R-P hulls
27.6gr '335
moly'd 50Vmax in the lands
CCI 400

Now this load is shooting 3 shots into 1/2" groups through 2 of my 223AI's and the speeds are around 33-3400'ish, it runs slightly faster in the SAAMI 223's I've shot it in, as would be expcected. I use this load to hunt with and no complaints. This load also runs good in my shooting partners 223AI's for FF'ing.

brdeano...i agree on a 2nd loading to get crisp shoulders-especially on AI...as far as my previous response is concerned i was concerned that a beginner would think,"well, heck,i'll just skip this stuff and load a full blown improved load & get there in one step"...i shud hav said that a 2nd loading wud be necessary but....good post on ur point.
