?'s about winchester black talon bullets?

Dont tell anybody, but I got a few boxes of 300 win mag "Black Talons" stashed in the safe. I am real careful with them cause I read the media stories about the "cop killers" and I have always been scared one of the rounds would just take off on its own and kill somebody. Now I use mostly Failsafe and they aren't called 'cop killers' so I am sure they are safer.

I was in the law enforcement business for about 4 years, The win Black Talon round was renamed to the Ranger, Note the ranger is only available to Law Enforcement. Someone mentioned that they use Speer Gold Dot 180 in the 40S&W, I have shot with the Speer rep into Ballistic Gel- Gold Dot is the best round you can use! Stay away from the Win pistol rounds! Just my two cents.....I've seen them both on the range--Gold Dot goood!

I dont know who referred to failsafes as blacktalons or visa versa, but my experience with both in my 300 is the failsafe penetrate more the black talons open up quicker and easier.
On smallish mule deer shooting sideways thru the lungs, the failsafe punches thru and leaves about a 1 inch exit, the black talons leave about a 3 inch hole, and really knock the deer down hard.

There are plenty of good bullet choices available today. And Winchester has some of them, as does Speer, Remington, Federal, Barnes, Nosler, Hornady, Sierra, ect... The quote below makes me laugh..., /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Don't mean to hijack the thread but has anyone tried Extreme Shock ammo. I was reading about it on Gunblast.com where they used it on a wild boar hunt with a 9mm and was really impressed with how it performed. Just curious if anyone has any experience and what thoughts are, expensive tho.

I Know it, 2much, but like you I cant help it, I gotta say my bit. FAL, Yer to much!!
I know these guys are talking about, pistol/revolver 'boolits', but the ban on a "name" still [beeep] me off. They banned the 'boolits' my brother and I just sighted in with, for an Idaho Elk trip.(many years ago) I guess they weren't 'banned' but bullied into taking them off the market.
Stupidity just gets to me.
On an average "issue" vest I wonder if a 9mm "Black Talon" out penetrates a 30/06 150 grain corelokt? Do you suppose the impact may have some influence on tissue damage/trauma?

Great Question! I don't have a line on any but, I
heard they were called over penetrators.
I think this app. fits perfectly for Dangerous Game in the lower 48 with a 40cal as your back up. The 40 is the spec. round for duty around here, so it must work well in that app. also. Especially with some of the other rounds mentioned in this thread. Just some other perspective tossed out, I don't know that I would want my neighbor to have to find out what I used on a worst case senario in the wrong way. Sounds like good advise to try the other suff that works in that app. without having the need for representation.
(recipe for dangerous game: 2 in the H ,1 in the C/2 in the C ,1 in the H - then repeat. They use the same formula but with teeth and claws and no conscience.)

Dawg gone:

IRT the Extreme Shock ammo, it's all a bunch of marketing hoopla. A made-up name (Nytrillium) to make it sound advanced. All the reputable folks in the industry have already discounted this stuff.

As for the testimony of a 9mm killing a hog, that's no great feat. You could get most any cartridge to kill most any critter. But can it do it every time? So they shoot a dozen hogs, get one them to actually drop instead of running off and claim it is a success.

Issue ammo for Mall Ninja's repelling mass Zombie attacks. Extreme Shock is Extreme Bull Crap. Made of a mystery metal that defies every known property of physics. Adolf Hitler once said, "The bigger the lie, the more likely people would beleive it!" Extreme Shock seems to apply that hype in their advertising.
