The local SW has these on sale for $299 + tax.

Does anyone own one of these handguns, or have any feedback to offer?

I've always been a Colt 1911 buff, and it's kinda like changing religions for me to even consider a polymer pistol..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

....But the wife is interested, and I would like to know anything you could share about this particular model.

Thanks guys /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Steve, There is a reason the Sigmas are running cheap....

If you are really interested in a Polymer Frame, my first choice would be the Walther P-99 (not the S&W 99) or a good old Glock.. The Walther has a decocker and with a round in the chamber is a D/A and then S/A with the availability of changing the grip backstrap to fit the shooter's hand. Very accurate and dependable.

I have a buddy that runs a gun shop and he totally quit offering the Sigmas due to a variety of problems that they were experiencing.

The Springfields are supposed to be pretty fair as well.

Also look at the Taurus pistols. I have a Millenum Pro PT 145 in .45 ACP. It holds 10 in the magazine, 1 up the spout. DAO, with a smooth 7lb. trigger pull. No wider than a single stack 1911. Felt recoil is noticibly less than my Gold Cup with the same ammo. Most naturally pointing pistol I have ever used and very accurate. It surprised the heck out of me, finding it to be as accurate as it turned out to be.

It cost me $300 new and I have not had one hiccup with it in over 500 shots fired through it. It's my CCW pistol.

Don't do it. There is a reason for the cheap price. You get what you pay for on this one. Sigmas had lots of issues when they came out. If you want polymer go with the Glock.

Well...just like usual...you guys have the dope! (unlike some opinions from people that you think might BE on dope) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I went and looked at the Sigma a little while ago, and I didn't find ANYTHING about it that I liked. And the little woman liked it even less. Her reaction sounded like this: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

She said, as we were leaving the store....."Why don't you give me your Commander and just buy you another pistol???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That sounded ludicrous! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif....until I remembered that I have been wanting a 38 Super for a while now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Add to that the fact that the Commander is simple to operate (cocked & locked = off with the safety and pull the trigger) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So, out with the S&W idea, and on with the idea of getting Mom more familiar & competent with the Colt....and starting to search for a Super for Dad. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like good reasoning to me... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have two Glocks and the XD Springfield. The XD is the best you can buy for the money. The Sigma isn't that bad but the Springfield is better for a slight increase in cost. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I would also take a close look at the Ruger P-series of polymer framed pistols. They are available in 9mm and 45 ACP. MI VHNTR

Get the Steyr M9A1 or M40A1 for $350 through CDNN. They are improved Glocks. Not well known, but they are the best bang for the buck.

As long as the Sigma is a VE model there will not be any problems. S&W got the bugs out of the "enhanced" model. Iv'e put a few thousand rounds through mine and prefer it over a Glock. It just feels better in my hand.
