San Carlos Indian Reservation

I believe this reservation is east of Phoenix. Has anyone hunted it and what does it cost for a license? I've tried contacting them directly but haven't received a reply.

Can you buy a weekly or monthly small game hunting license? Any comments good or bad about the reservation and yote hunting.

License fees depend on what you are hunting. Small game or preds $10 per day, Mtn lion $10 per day, Trophy elk $30,000, etc.

You can get a weekly small game permit ($60) but it doesn't include preds. You can also buy the daily pred license for as many days in advance as you want.

There are lots of coyotes, lions, etc., as well as trophy big game (world record elk taken a couple of years ago). The reservation is also hunted 365 day a year so while there is a large population of preds, they are pressured in most areas (same as much of AZ).

Our annual Predator Masters Globe Hunt starts Feb 1st with a competition Egg Shoot through Feb 4th when we have a banquet and drawings for door prizes, presentations by Mike Dillon (FoxPro) and Mike Milli (Dtech).

It's a great opportunity to meet the guys here in person, learn something about our great sport, and get in some hunting in some fantastic country. Go here for details: http://www.predatormastersforums.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Board=24

I hunted Javalina there last February. Cost about $250 for the tag. The wildlife management department seems pretty ate up in my opinion, they were not really on the ball when we went there. Lost one of my friends applications, even though they charged his card! Anyway, in the 4 days we hunted area D we saw 1 coyote and my friend killed it, nasty looking dog. We ran into only one group of Javalina and my friend killed one of those, I was holding out to take one with my bow, but never had an opportunity. The area we were in did not hold very many animals of any sort. In hind site we should have hunted area "A" and hired a guide.

I just returned from San Carlos last week, and as a complete Coyote novice, who had never shot one before, I was able to secure two. Had I been a Coyote expert, like many on this site, I believe I could have done better. I was there five days, but only hunted for Coyotes three of those days.
I understand your frustration regarding the Wildlife and Recreation Department. I faxed my application three weeks in advance, called to make sure they received it, and called again the day before my arrival. I was assured all was in order. The day of my arrival, they had no idea who I was. Patience and kindness is the key.
Here is a link to a few pictures I posted.
