CANNON BALL, N.D. - Last week, we showed you all the garbage that was left by Dakota Access Pipeline protesters at the Oceti Sakowin Camp.

Now, we're showing you where all that trash will end up.

Sanitation crews are working hard to dispose of six months' worth of garbage from a community the size of Wahpeton or Valley City. The mountains of debris need to be moved before the spring thaw occurs.

Making a dent in the immense amount of trash being hauled out of the Oceti Sakowin protest camp is being hindered by the weather. All the garbage that was left behind is now frozen into massive chunks of junk.

In a month, all this trash could become toxic.

"Standing Rock Environmental Protection Agency and Dakota Sanitation are working together to try and advert an environmental tragedy," says Tom Doering, Morton County Emergency Manager.

It's estimated it will take 250 trucks (18 yard dump trucks - 4500 cubic yards of trash) filled with litter to clear the camp.

"There's a lot of work to be done," says Doering.

Each load that's dumped is inspected by the Morton County Sheriff's Department.

"We are looking for, as I said, anything illegal, anything that might be used to, I guess, harm our officers during a protest," says Jay Gruebele, Morton County Sheriff's Office Captain.

Authorities are also searching through the piles for evidence they hope they don't find.

"As bad as it sounds, we're looking for people that may have died and could be wrapped up in a canvas or a tarp or tent," says Gruebele.

Logistics make cleaning up this mess more difficult.

"Because the bridge is closed, they have to take the long way around, so it's adding haul time," says Doering.

Twenty-three loads have been dumped at the Bismarck Landfill since the cleanup started.

The clean-up effort started about a week ago.

So who in the [beeep] is footing this bill? I personally believe that before a protest of this magnitude is allowed, someone should have to post a bond to cover costs like this as well as the extra police coverage. When they go to the county seat to get their permit, they should have to show proof of a bond in their name.
Anytime you do a government bid, construction, logging, etc., you have to obtain a bond to cover costs incase of default of your contract. Pretty simple!

Yep, that would be a good idea... Morton County is stuck with the costs of cleanup as far as I know. Unless they can somehow assess the tribe with the bill, but the odds of getting the tribe to foot the bill are slim to none, since the encampment wasn't on the reservation, and there were a limited number of tribe members involved.

I found the part of the video where he stated they're hoping they don't find any bodies rolled up in the garbage interesting!

apparently this was all about getting a new water plant at the cost of the pipeline people for the standing rock reservation 70 miles up stream.

Jesse Jackson would be jellous of this attempted shake down, and hopefully the new Administration will withhold funds to the standing rock to pay that local city back for the cost of the reservation trying to shake down and in the process making a mess.

I also would since the standing rock doesn't want to take care of it, dump the trash on the road to the reservation, blocking it off. let them haul it to their dump. With a big sign on top.. "Pack it in, pack it out"

If I had to guess that isn't the real reason either T-Bone... the Democrats are behind it all. There is a reason Obama went to Standing Rock in 2012 on the campaign trail, not sure what it was, but there was a reason. It didn't have anything to do with unemployed Indians that don't want to work on that reservation either. Something more went down behind the scenes.

i have seen some stuff that suggest that Warren Buffet is also behind it.. nothing that you can really point to. Reasoning is that he owns the tankers that are transporting the oil now. Pipeline would cost him billions and every train that runs the oil keeps him getting paid.

BNSF is the largest carrier of oil from North Dakota's Bakken shale formation, and construction of the Keystone XL pipeline could put a dent in BNSF's $22 billion annual revenue stream. In 2013, $5.7 billion of that came from industrial products, of which a major component is oil.

Does anyone think Liberals will see the denial of the pipelines (The safest and ecological least risky) as a way to do a favor for a big donor, and not as a Piss off to environmentalists?

Absolutely... Anyone with a brain knows Buffet was greasing his palms with oil money, but Liberals aren't known for having brains.
