Sauer 100 .222 Rem

FWIW.....here's a target and a pic of my home made 222 that started life as a cheap ($359) Remington SPS 223. If I can get that kind of accuracy out of a cheap factory 700 barrel I doubt you'll have much trouble.

Very nice shooter you have there, but I say your dog doesn't appear to be very impressed.

Ya know.....if your thread hasn't accomplished anything else it's proven that there are at least two Deuce enthusiests on this site.

I'm not sure who's the bigger fan though....me or AWS...so we'll just call it a tie.

Hi RePete,

Remington rifles are outstandingly accurate. Some 25 years ago, a deer hunting buddy bought bought an inexpensive Remington promotional rifle chambered for .270 Win at Walmart. He said the deal was too good to pass up. That darn rifle shot under an inch with factory ammo. Incredible.

My first big game rifle, a Rem Model 700 .270 Win will shoot .25 @ a hundred with hunting hand loads. If I can figure out how to post a photo from my MacBook to here, I'll do it.

Hi RePete,

Thanks for the load info. I hope to find an accurate bullet somewhere between 50 & 55 grains.

I was going to go with LAPUA brass. That is excellent brass. But since I use Norma brass for my .270 Win & 7MM Rem Mag, I figured I might as well stick with one brand.

I've read a lot of good stuff about H332 & IMR4198.

Ken Waters wrote that the .222 Rem is capable of making 300 yard shots. That's a long way when shooting small game an varmints. I was thinking more along the lines of 200-250 yards. In fact, I was thinking of going with the new Steyr Zepher II .22 WMR and restricting shots to under a hundred yards. But I can hand load .222 cheaper than buying .22 WMR ammo.

I've seen Rocky Mountain coyotes up real close. I saw a gorgeous one with a red neck. I watched him scatter a herd of antelope. When he got tired, he trotted right towards me. I put the crosshairs of my Model 700 .270 Win scope right on his chest. A 130 Sierra GameKing woulda vaporized him. I was about to drop the hammer on him, but I didn't wanna spook the 30" 4x4 muley that was hiding in thick stuff below the cliff beyond. Truth be told, I was hoping a huge muley was gonna show just enough of himself to put one of those GameKings in his oxygenated blood pump apparatus. If one was in there, he saved that coyote's life that day. Anyway, my Li'l Deuce Coup is gonna go on big game hunts with me.

I have a bunch of muley bonus points for Utah. But getting into The Henrys doesn't seem realistic. My elk guide told me he could put me on a trophy muley in the San Juan unit. I did see huge bucks while chasing monster bull elk. There are lots of smaller critters roaming San Juan that'd make such a hunt a lot more fun.

CA is over populated with coyotes. My friend lives in Laguna Beach. I live just east of her. Coyotes roam Laguna Beach. Heck, you can see 'em in LA. There are black bears, lions, and bobcats, and yotes in the San Gabriel Mountains that are just outside of LA. But because CA is an extremely gun hostile state, I refuse to support it by buying a hunting license.

I'm fixin' to bail to CA as soon as my kids are outta college.

Don't overlook that Benchmark Powder.....I'm pretty much old school everything (don't even own a cell phone LOL) but I swear by the stuff for 222/223 cartridges.

Sad as it is that a guy can be driven out of his own state.....yes....get out of that chit hole stat but don't do like many Californians do and bring their commie views with em.

Hi RePete,

Thanks for the Benchmark tip. I'm old school, too!

I'm so conservative that I ain't in the Republican Party any more. I didn't leave it. It done up & skedaddled on me! I jumped on the Trump Train the second he announced, and I'm dang near the engineer;-) I'm praying that at high noon on 25 Jan 2025, Rand Paul is sworn in as 46th President of the United States of America. Ted Cruz needs to skedaddled back to Alberta & graze on tundra pickins. He didn't relinquish his Canadian citizenship until 2014 when he took a hankerin' to volatin' James Madion's Article II Section I PG V of the US Constitution. He ain't a natural born citizen. Madison did not want ANYONE (Obama included) holdin' dual citizenship or not of natural USA birth -thereby causing his loyalty to be questioned- to be headin' the US Military!

Many years ago, a dude in Utah saw our CA plates while we was gettin' gas in a no-stop-light town. He got to rippin' us a new one 'cause he assumed we wea liberal commies. Turns out we were more conservative than was he. I'm so conservative that the only gun control law we need James Madison wrote on June 9, 1789: we know it as Amendment II of the United States Constitution. The only legal way to infringe upon it is by amending the constitution consistent with Article V. We need to get back to following wisdom of our Founding Fathers.

After a vendor shipping error (shipped to wrong FFL, back to vendor, shipped to correct FFL), I finally got a look at my new Sauer 100 .222 Rem. It is one impressive rifle. Sauer guarantees MOA. I'm hoping for much better.

I live in the totalitarian state of CA, but not much longer. I completed required paperwork. Now I have to wait 10 days (Nov 17) before I can take my new rifle home.
