Savage 10 Predator - opinions

I was just wondering if any of you guys have a Savage Model 10 Predator, and if so, how you like (or don't like) it? I currently have a 12FV in .22-250 and was thinking of upgrading to the 10 Predator for the lighter weight and shorter barrel. My 12FV is a great shooter but sometimes I hunt all day and it gets heavy. Any and all opinions appreciated.

I got one a few months ago. I really like it. Like you, I have a 12FV, but in .223. I bought my PH in .223 and my daughter has a Savage Youth in .223. This makes it easier on Dad The Reloader. I went with the PH for the very reason you're thinking about- easier in the field handling. Mine shoots one of my loads (52 gr HP) into 5-shot 1/2" groups @ 100 yds and the other (55 gr SP) into 3/4" groups. Totally adequate for me.

Thank you for the info. That helps me make my decision. Also, congratulations on your double kill. Great that you had your boy along!

I have one and I really like it.The plus side is that the gun shoots great and I like the way its balanced. Its just barrel heavy enough to shoot off hand well but not to heavy to carry for long walks. The down side of the gun for me is I'm not fond of the camo. I may have the gun stripped and black -T treatment done to it.

'course, you're in PA where the woods are different, but I love the camo. That really was part of the reason I got one. Here's me and the PH with our first coyote (my daughter did the calling!). I think the camo blends great with my terrain. I mean "Mossy Oak" blending in with "High Plains".... go figure! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The 10 Predator is not what I would say is a light rifle. Check out the Rem. mod. 7 Predator. I looked at one at Cabelas the other day and it is a lot lighter and the camo job is not as orange , more green, and looks to be of better quality.
