My 308 was a bit difficult to seat at first but seems to be getting a bit easier for some reason, maybe I'm just learning to hold my mouth just right
. Half the time I just top load as I would with a fixed mag.
Funny story, dropped mine in the sand yesterday so called Savage customer service to see if it could be disassembled since sand would not blow out due to light oil coating inside the box from factory.
Gal said, "it is never necessary to disassemble". I replied that it was and why....silence. So I asked if she could recommend a solvent to flush out the sand that would not melt the rubber or plastic bottom and she couldn't help but did give me the part number to order a new one (just $58.00). While waiting for her reply, I noticed two holes in side of mag box just above rubber cap and a light came on.
A 1/4" punch pushed through these holes holds follower down about half way and I believe you could tilt follower up enough in front to remove it, but noticed sand was just barely below the follower at that point, so cut a flat piece of plastic that could be used to push follower all the way to bottom of magazine, marked and drilled a 1/4" hole in the plastic jig to line up w/holes in the box. Pushed follower all the way down, inserted punch in my jig which held follower all the way down while I wiped out all the sand.
All this took about 30 minutes; quickest $58 bucks I ever made.
