savage 110 predator or weatherby vanguard

Everyone gets caught up in accuracy and comparing guns by quarter inch groups and I'm just as guilty cuz I've done it several times as well and end up overlooking what's equally important for a hunting rifle. Handling, being able to run the bolt smoothly from the shoulder, magazine fit and function and so on. I scoped and zeroed, developed load for a guy that gave me his Weatherby s2 in 6.5 and shot it side-by-side with my Savage predator and although accuracy between the two was about even I felt his Weatherby was a much better built rifle. The Machining and fit-and-finish was very good, i was kinda bummed I picked the savage...ymmv

I started changing my tune about Savages a couple of decades ago when Gun Test magazine always picked Savage as the winner when doing comparison test with other like rifles. Especially when the price was figured in. I have one Savage 112 (that I am holding in my avatar) and a couple of Model 12's and they delight me every time I take them to the range or to the field. Kinda hard not to get attached to them when they have treated me so well.

Depending on what your plans are for the rifle. If you ever want to upgrade, there are alot more options for the Savage than the Weatherby. If your plans are to just hunt and shoot it the way it comes NIB, then its gonna just be up to which one you like best.
