Savage 110 with Flat Bolt....? PICS

I couldn't pass up this used Oldie Lefty Savage 110 243 for 295.00 to my FFL's door... with Simmons 3-10x50...
.... haven't even shot it yet... hope it does well.

My question is this... why did they put on this flat face bolt... which I don't really like how it feels...?

Can it be replaced...?

Can the trigger be adjusted...?

That is an odd handle. Who knows why people do what they do..

Go to Savageshooters.com, those guys know their savages. There are a myriad of replacement handles for Savages, I think Jim at Northland Shooters Supply can hook you up with a new handle. Get a Rifle Basics trigger, I think Jim carries those too.
 
I think that rifle fell out of somebodies truck and slide on the pavement far enough to wear the knob flat.

Good looking rifle at a dang good price Dan. Except for that handle. Don't think I'd like that either.

If I remember correctly, the triggers on those 110's can be adjusted so they are pretty decent. Good find my man.
 
The bolt handle looks like somebody made it in their shop. It is not only flat, but also longer than usual. the bolt lift on a Savage is heavier than most. I have the same rifle in .25-06 even left handed. It is a first generation model. They were made between 1958 and 1963. Keep in mind that the barrels are different in case you were thinking about barrel swapping. The bolt nose recesses into barrel.

The trigger is adjustable, but really is odd to work on. Most of the adjustment screws are hard to get to. The sear depth screw is easy to get to and is the first place to look. There are diagrams on the web if you look for first generation. I know Numrich has one, but it is hard to read on the small parts.

Definitely look on Savage Shooters website.
 
Well, I'd say you have two options...

One, cut off the end of that bolt handle, drill a hole in the end of the bolt shank, find a bolt knob with a profile that you like, cut the knob off of THAT bolt leaving about a 3/4" shank, machine the shank down to fit the hole you drilled in the your savage's bolt handle, weld the knob in place, and grind to fit. Takes longer to find parts than it does to do the work (assuming you have access to a lathe).

OR, the simple version, buy this one:

Remove the old bolt handle, slap the new OEM handle on.

Lhitchcox.. I went to that link and relized that I was still a member there from the past... so i was able to see that link...which is a great one.. I will try that procedure first... looks like an easy fix.... thanks so much....
 
You can get all your saveg parts from midwayusa also.
The bolt on that gunb is not the original. Very easy to replace the bolt & adjust the trigger.
