Savage Arms in trouble?

Being left-handed, I've always respected Savage arms. Still have a pre war 300 99. They were also the first Left handed bolt action rifle readably available.
Businesses change hands alot more than one would think. If they are profitable they won't go anywhere.

Those are cool as he11....I haven't seen em before but I'm not much of a Savage guy other than the 99's. Still...I hate seeing any of the old US firearms manufacturers go down. Even when it's self inflicted which it usually is.

Here is the REI letter......

REI statement on relationship with Vista Outdoor
03.01.2018
REI does not sell guns. We believe that it is the job of companies that manufacture and sell guns and ammunition to work towards common sense solutions that prevent the type of violence that happened in Florida last month. In the last few days, we’ve seen such action from companies like Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart and we applaud their leadership.

This week, we have been in active discussions with Vista Outdoor, which has recently acquired several companies that are longtime partners of REI. These include Giro, Bell, Camelbak, Camp Chef and Blackburn. Vista also owns Savage Arms, which manufactures guns including “modern sporting rifles.”

This morning we learned that Vista does not plan to make a public statement that outlines a clear plan of action. As a result, we have decided to place a hold on future orders of products that Vista sells through REI while we assess how Vista proceeds.

Companies are showing they can contribute if they are willing to lead. We encourage Vista to do just that.

Its amazing to me that people think if they quit selling AR 15 type rifles that the gun violence will stop. But here again, I'm just preaching to the choir.

The .300 Savage has killed a whole lot of North American big game.

Happy Thanksgiving and weekend to you also sir!

Yes the detachable magazine version came later in the 99 run. I was drawn to the concept because as a rancher I spend a lot of time in a truck. A loaded long gun in a road vehicle in my State is illegal. A rifle easily loaded and unloaded is important. However I ditched the idea of a 99 with their DM model due to it’s issues.

I certainly hope that Savage recovers. If they do not there is consolation in the fact that the huge number of 10/110 series rifles as well as other guns they have built over the many decades are not going anywhere.
