Savage arms.....WHY?

I picked up a used BA Stealth several years back and from time to time have had problems with the factory accu-trigger dropping the sear upon closing the bolt. Of course it catches on the blade portion of the trigger and doesn't fire.
My speculation is there may have been some home smithing done so I contacted savage to aquire a new sear and poundage spring.

I was informed these parts must be purchased through an FFL. WHY? It's a simple replacement with no smithing needed unless they are hand fit which I doubt.

Years ago I needed a part for a Remington. A store in town is the Remington dealer and carry parts. I can't remember the part today but remember them telling me they could only sell it to an FFL. Thought it was crazy then.

Savage has always been pretty good about sending me out parts for free so I could fix things myself but since this is trigger related and with that potentially higher liability I agree with Zastava and that's likely why they won't send the parts to you.

It'll cost you a few bucks but have you thought about just putting a good aftermarket trigger in it instead or messing with something someone else potentially jacked up? If it were me I'd probably go that route.

The Sav2 eliminates the factory sear and is a 200% improvement.

Good to know since I just sent back my sav-1 trigger and am upgrading to the sav-2.

+1 on the Savage 2 Rifle Basix Triggers. Let them know what you are putting it in. Apparenty the Mod 10 and Mod 12 are ever so slightly different.

When I complained on another site that Savage wouldn’t sell me a rimfire stock without going through an FFL, some implied I didn’t know what I was talking about. Thanks for posting this.

I wonder if it's a who you talk to at Savage Tech thing because I've always had them send me stuff for free with no issues at all.

New magazines for both my Bmag and 93/17HMR. New Extractor, spring, and plunger for my Bmag. Two stocks for my A17 17 HMR. Two because the first one they sent me was the plastic one and then the correct laminated one a couple days later. In fact, the two day aired the laminated one because he felt bad for sending me the wrong on first.

Whenever I've called the Savage Tech line there was the same two people that answered, a young man and a lady. The lady is very nice but doesn't know much and her solution is always to send out a claim ticket and have you send the gun back to them. The guy that answers, I don't recall his name, has always been excellent to deal with and has sent me out whatever I needed and not only does he send me what I've needed but I usually get it within a few days.

Awhile back someone on the forum had extraction issues with their Bmag I suggested they call Savage Tech and talk to them about getting new parts and Savage sent them out all new parts/pieces as well.

Maybe it's just luck and talking to the right person.

I'm the guy that hat extraction problems. I talked to the guy at Savage and there was no negotiating. He asked for an address and said the parts were going Inn the mail as soon as he hung up at no charge. They showed 3 days later Priority Mail. The rifle now runs 100%.

Per the installation video, looks like you were wrong.
The sav-2 trigger uses the factory sear.

It could be bologna, but I've heard that some manufacturers are no longer selling replacement parts for firearms to the general public due to some ITAR reg changes that were made under the obama admin. Those changes may not apply in this situation. This is what I was told by a FFL/gunsmith I know of.

Good question. Really doesn't make much sense...

Buddy of mine had the same issue. Turned out that he set the pull weight too low. Turned it up a bit, problem solved.

I have my 110 turned down as low as it will go. Sometimes it will drop the sear and I have to open and close the bolt. Basically resetting the trigger. Doesn't do it very often but it will do it. Might try turning the trigger up a little.

I just replaced the trigger.
Much lighter than factory but still not quite happy with it. I just wish these aftermarket triggers would do away with the factory sear.
