savage axis heavy barrel?

I currently have an axis 223 sporter barrel but found heavy barrel guns for $319 seeing how everyone likes them.

also anyone know if I can buy a heavy barrel and swap it with my sporter barrel?

You can swap from most Savage barrels. A few are larger, but they are usually from a Savage Target action.

I had a model 10 precision version with the heavy barrel and digital stock. It shot great but I didn't like the way it balanced with the hollow stock. It was so barrel heavy it was like trying to carry a small anvil. I found that all that was in the but stock was a piece of Styrofoam. I put some shot and foam in it and it balanced and carried better even though it was heavier. I wound up trading it, in a round about way, for an Axis with a light barrel for a carry around rifle and like it better for that purpose.

Get one of these, they are just darned accurate barrels. I have 2 of them now. All my loads print in the sub moas.
That action will take the Small shank Savage barrels, easy to do right at home!

The swap will be the same as any other savage, you'll have to open up the barrel channel to get a heavy to fit though.
