Savage Axis Varmint vs. Remington 700 Varmint Black Friday deals

I'm in need of a new coyote rifle and I noticed both Dicks and Cabelas are both having a good deal on Varmint Rifles. I'm planning on buying it in 22-250 but will take .223 if I have too. Dicks has the Rem. 700 varmint (ADL I think) for $399.99 ($200 off) in mossy oak brush, heavy barrel with a cheap 4-12x40 scope. Cabelas has the Savage Axis Predator for $419.99 ($60 off) with a 3-9 Bushnell scope. Ive been leaning towards the remington and I almost bought it yesterday until the guy working at Dicks told me it was going on sale for $200 off Friday. I plan on changing the scope on whatever I buy. The remington is obviously the better deal but do you think its the better rifle? Which would you recommend?

No Academy stores in Maine and not sure they have it in a heavy barrel.

However, I'd go with the Remington over the Axis. FWIW, I own an Axis.

The 700 is 1:14 twist with 26" barrel 8.5 lbs, the savage is 1:12 twist with a 22" barrel 6.5 lbs. The only thing that would make me choose the savage is that its 2 lbs lighter but i assume that means no heavy barrel.

I don't know about Rem over Savage every time, however in the case of Rem 700 over an Axis I would go with the Rem. Wish we had a Dicks here, I need a left hand Rem 700 action.

I'd take a low-end Remington 700 over any of the new pencil-barreled el-cheapos out there; however, if I had no other choice, it would be: 3.Savage Axis. 2.Ruger American, due to its (alleged) faster-twist .22-250 barrel. 1.TC Venture Predator as an all-around better package (5R rifling, DBM, camo availability).
But, if you compare that ADL Varmint at Dick's with the heavy-barrel Savage Model 11 VT sold there, the choice is less clear. The 11 has the Accutrigger vs. a primitive hard-to-adjust X-pro on the 700; the cheap scope is a tad better and has higher magnification on the Model 11; and the Savage has a detachable magazine while the Rem has a (to me) PITA blind box. Unless one dislikes one company more than the other, it might come down to a coin flip.

I'd look and see if they have a better deal on the rifle alone, combo package scopes just take up room in my garbage pile, money saved on that is better used on decent glass imo.

I have the dicks savage 11vt...had it to range once...was hitting close bullseye after 3 shots. Came with bushnell banner 4-12×40....its decent for a factory scope...i wanna put that on my .17hmr n get a nice piece of glass for the 11

Savage is ugly, but functional like a glock. Easy as [beeep] to change barrels, calibers, etc. Modular. An axis is too. If you get a 223 you will get bored when you buy an AR15. I'm switching mine to 22-250. 204 is a zipper. Now, on the other hand if the Remmy is a 22-250, BUY it. I love my savages, all three; the Remington loves me back though. And it will last a lifetime either way. R700 has way more aftermarket, if that helps at all. It's just a lot less $ to swap barrels/ calibers.

I have many savages, and I have many Remington 700's.. The ONLY time I would choose the Remington over the Savage is when it's the Axis model..

Same thoughts here.

I would go with the Remington if I had the choice, I have heard that the ADL Varmints are pretty accurate straight from the box as well.
