savage blowing primers

Just wondering if anyone else has had any of these same issues or might have an idea of what's going on?.
I purchased a savage fcp-sr a few months ago, and have only fired factory ammo through it. (Mostly hornady super performance 168match) I recently tried some nosler match ammo and found it to be very accurate. Over the weekend I was shooting a competition and the first stage I found 4 pooped primers out of 8 rounds and 3 of the others and black rings around the primers. I tried a different box of nosler ammo and similar results. Switched back to some hornady ammo with a little better result but lots of black rings and a couple blown primers. The outside temps were similar to other times I have had the rifle out, ammo was kept in my pack out of direct Sun. There are no differences in any of the case dimensions.
I fired this rifle with the nosler ammo 6 days prior without issue. I have not changed anything on the rifle. Sorry for the long post, just looking for ideas or if anyone else has experienced this.

Well what was the temp outside just for the curious? If you drive with your gun and ammo in the trunk and then put it in a backpack, it could get really warm for starters.

Also, and this is all stuff you probably already know, but leaving a loaded round in a hot chamber for any length of time will heat soak the cartridge just the same as sitting in the sun.

I'd suggest you not shoot it anymore until you find out what the problem is or you'll end up with a bolt face that looks like someone took a cutting torch to it.

How is your ammo chambering, does it take any more effort to close the bolt then before?

Are you getting any amount of stiffer than normal bolt lift after you've fired a couple rounds?

The rounds that popped the primers, which ones were they in your sequence of firing?

Sounds like you have a pressure issue. If it was only one brand of ammo causing the problem, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer with the lot number. If more than one brand of ammo is giving similar results, you may have a headspace issue. Maybe try another brand of ammo and if it continues, get the gun checked out.

The fact you shot it a week earlier and it was fine is odd. What was the difference in temperature and conditions between the days if you remember. And did you have the guns and ammo in a warm car prior to shooting the last day? You go from shooting in the shade to direct sun, and if the powder isn't the extreme line types, I think that's the first thing I would look at. Also measure your chamber if you have an OAL gauge too. From ok pressure to blowing primers one after the other is strange for sure.

You could use an OAL gauge from hornady to check the lead. I think that I would contact clymer reamers and rent a set of go nogo gauges.

Thx for the responses. It was about 9am probably 10+ degrees cooler when it was blowing primers. Ammo and rifle were transported in a suv. None of the rounds were in the chamber more then second. Cleaning wise, I cleaned the barrel with Cooper and carbon remover about 60 rounds prior and the night before ran a nylon brush and dry patch through the barrel.
I talked to savage they said to send it in, and it will be 6 to 8 weeks, do I think I'm going to take it to a local Smith to check the head space and see what they find.

He's not pierceing primers , he's blowing them, as in primer pockets. Atleast the way I read it ...
