Savage build/ring height

Folks,
In the process of my Savage .243 build. In the process of ordering base, rings, and the scope. I think I'm set on ordering the Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44 mrad scope. Anyone have any time behind one? Also pretty set on 20moa egw base. Looking at either vortex hs 30mm rings or burris xtr 30mm rings. What I am looking for is what height ring should I purchase for the 44mm objective and 20moa base? Medium or Low? Any other things that I should be looking at? Thanks

I am running an EGW 20 MOA base on my Savage with a 50mm objective and am using EGW Practical rings with a height of .840" to center of scope. This combo gave me around .250" gap between the scope and the barrel which is a varmint contour.

The low Burris rings measure the same as my EGW rings and the low Vortex rings are .003" taller at .870". Which ever you go with, the lows will clear no problem.

One thing to account for, the EGW bases have an extension on the front and may interfere with getting the correct eye relief. I have a 6-24 Viper PST and the bell is very close to the rail extension. The scope you are looking at is almost 2 inches shorter than mine and with low rings, may contact the base preventing you from a proper eye relief.

Stack pennies on you bases then your scope on top of the pennies. That will give you a starting point. Measure the penny stack. If you have a high comb you may have to add a few more. You need to see your eye piece not your eye brow. You should not lean down to see the scope.

EGW makes great one piece bases. I like the Burris Xtreme rings also.
