Savage Edge - Adjustable trigger? How's it shoot?

I bought an Edge in .270 Win. just for grins and giggles. I slapped a new Redfield 3-9x40 scope on it, which is a pretty decent scope for what little I paid ofr it. The trigger was about 6.5 pounds out of the box, so I clipped 2.5 coils off, hit the sear and trigger with a fine polishing stone and the trigger breaks at a crisp 3.25 pounds now, which of totally acceptable for a deer rifle.

Loaded up some 130gr and 140gr Nosler Ballistic tips and some 130gr Nosler Partitions, in Winchester brass, on top of 54gr of IMR-4350, with Winchester LR primers. At 105yds, the 130gr Ballistic Tips averaged .496" for 3, 3 shots groups. The 140gr Ballistic Tips averaged .481" for 3, 3 shot groups. The 130gr Nosler Partitions averaged .874" for 3, 3 shot groups. I only shot 3 shot groups because it was 100 degrees that day I shot and 3 shot, made the barrel HOT, so I set it aside in the shade to cool down some, befoer shooting another group.

Sure the Edge has to cut corners here and there to make that price point, but all of the guns I looked at up to $600 had made sacrifices in one area or the other. The best trigger I found came with the cheapest looking, feeling stock imo. The Edge will probably not be passed down for generations but as far as hunting goes it will shoot just as accurate as just about anything out there.....for less.

point well taken, i agree. i didnt intend to "bash the edge" in my comments. they are selling like wildfire here in ohio for 279.00. for me, i usually try to get the most accuracy out of a rifle after i purchase it....trigger/bedding/etc. i could buy a nicely bedded savage with accutrigger for the price i would have in the "edge" after modifying it...but thats just me. that being said, i have a friend that puchased a savage edge and shoots it as is......and loves it.

I don't want to judge anyone's firearm as everybody has different wants, needs, and budgets. The Edge isn't for everybody but it's nice there are becoming low cost options for people who just can't afford the expensive stuff. I have shotguns in the cabinet that for sentimental reasons and nice wood stocks I'm just not willing to take them out to actually hunt with anymore. Kind of sad. I can fully understand someone wanting to modify a firearm in search of better accuracy and I agree the Edge isn't designed for that. Other than maybe the barrel, almost everything else could be improved on.
