looking for a .243 to use for both coyote hunting and occasionally deer. been shopping for a while and the savage model 12 vlp dbm is my pick so far. Are there any other .243 NON SYNTHETIC rifles that I should take a closer look at? wanting something accurate out of the box $1000 or less

The VLP will be hard to beat. I have two and both are super accurate. One is a 22-250 LH DBM with over 4800 rds downrange and still shoots very well with an occasional flyer. The other is/was a 243 blind mag that's now a 220 Swift. They are a bit heavy but are extremely good shooting rifles.

Mine is the older blind mag version. In fact there are three; a
.22/250, .25-06 (yes, they made these for awhile) and the .243.

All are very accurate. The .243 loves 70gr SMK's and 105 A-max's.
It will do 1/4MOA with the A-max's when I do my part. However,
it does NOT like any load I've tried to come up with for the
55gr bullets.

You can get a Boyds lam or walnut stock for $99 and shipping, I wouldn't let a synthetic stock turn you away, change it if you like a certain rifle.
