savage model 93 22 mag

I have the heavy barreled ss/s model. I think it is called the FVSS. It is one HIGHLY accurate rifle. It will put Federal 40gr or 50gr into little cloverleafs at 100yds consistently. The only bad thing about it is the trigger. It takes some getting used to. I believe there was a thread or two about these triggers and how to improve thier performance about a year ago---2MG

I have the sporter barrel LH 93 and it groups the Fed 30 gr Sierra into little ragged holes at 40 yards and the Rem V-Max almost as well. It doesn't like the standard factory Win HP's or Solids grouping them over a inch at the same distant. I have killed gray and fox squirrels and a number of coons , one shot and dead. I prefer my 17 HMR's because of the rifles the 17's are chambered in , Cooper and Anschutz.

I had one of the sporter barrel 93FSS's in .22 Mag.....
One of the BIGGEST disappointments in rifles I've ever owned.

Go to RimfireCentral.com and do a search in their "Savage" forum for the 93FSS and posts by "me!" (with an exclamation point)..... You'll get my whole story and find that many others have the same complaints. It seems that every cost-cutting measure the bean counters at Savage ever tried to impose on Production came together on this one model.....

Please keep in mind.....
My comments are on one specific model and chambering...
The 93FSS, sporter weight barrel in .22 Mag....
Stay Away from It.

Ruger 77/22 mag. is good I love mine (77/22 mag. target mod. with laminate stock). Very accurate never any problems killed a fox at 120yds most recent.

I have the 93FSS and it was the 1st 22 magnum I have owned. Its my coyote gun during the deer archery season here in Tennessee. It does the job and the stainless steel and syntheic stock makes it nice when we have some rain. If I had to buy another 22 magnum I would for myself buy a CZ in 22 magnum. I own a .223 and a ,243 in CZ and really like both of them. They were accurate out of the box.

I had to form the rail the clip engages on so to make the cartridge feed into the barrel. There is not a ramp to guide the tip of the cartridge into the chamber. Other then that I am satisfied for what I paid for it.

I got to get my 2 cents worth in on this one. I purchased one of the Savage 93 GL in the 22 mag. I absolutely love it. I scoped it with a Bushnell scope I think it is 2.5 by 4. I reworked the trigger as per instructions given on the Savage shooters forum. I sanded the inside of the stock down to get the stock off of the barrel. As for ammo as 2muchgun said it shoots the Federal 50 grain in little clover leafs at 100 yd. and I am an exceptionally bad shooter. Old eys.
If you have plenty of money to spend go ahead and get one of the higher priced rifles. But if you want an inexpensive accurate rifle that you can have fun with, I would recommend the 93G. I have seen a lot of the negative posts about them but I have been nothing but pleased with my Savage. Nightfisher.

I tried both a 93G and a Marlin 925M.
I went with the Marlin. I really like the trigger on the marlin and the way the magazine fit and fed cartridges. It was a tad more than what I was budgeted for but what the heck. I had a ruger before and really liked it but I traded it for a shotgun.
Thanks to all for the info.
