Went n shot my first, and only savage rifle today which I recently purchased. All you guys on the Savage bandwagon gotta move it on over cuz I'm jumpin on.
Ive always been a Remmy guy but I got baptized today,Its my first savage n its impressive to say the least.

Good lord is that Mod12VLP BDM 22-250 accurate.I just grabbed some 250 handloads I had for a TCVenture the first 5 shot group was.5 @ 100yds,moved to 200 lil over an inch.needless to say Im impressed. The only thing I did was drop it in an H&S stock.
With the abilty to change barrels Savage is winning, everybody else is suckin dust. bout time I caught up!

While Savage bolt guns have been around for decades many of us just like you are relative newcomers to them. We have had for years the idea that a good accurate bolt action rifle had to come from Remington or Winchester or perhaps Sako. Not so as you (and many more of us) have found out.

Dollar for dollar they are one of the very best guns out there. Shoot great, easy to modify if you desire and as you noted, the average joe can do his own barrel swaps. Indeed, several weeks ago I converted my .221 FB Savage M12 to a .243 AI. Took about 30 minutes with about 15 of that getting the headspace just perfect. How neat is that?

You are certainly off to a fine start with your new M12VLP. I suspect that it will not be long when a few critters out there will not be anywhere near as pleased however!

Ive got an SPSV 243 that shoots well but it does because of the work Ive put in relaoding and aftermarket parts, this VLP I just swapped the stock grabbed a handful of reloads not even taylored to the gun n bada bing!! tight ten ring.
I cant wait to see what I can do ladder testing,I hate putting in the work but I believe this rifle is capable of a one hole group.

30 years ago you couldn't have given me a savage. Now I wouldn't own a remington with the exceotion of the older models.

VaHunter...38 yrs ago I was starting my 1st build on a Savage action WAY before most were "aware" of how great they are.
