Savage/Stevens .223 22-250 Which Factory Ammo?

Going to finish compiling my wish list to the wife for my newest gun. Handloading is definately out as I hardly have time to hunt as it is.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Stevens 200 or the new Savage Edge in either .223 or 22-250. Since the rate of twist is the same for both models, and for all I know they may be the same barrels, I would hope the ammo data for the Stevens will carry over to the edge as the Edge has very little user data out on it. I did see a review on the .243 that looked good, but nothing else.

For those of you that had success with factory ammo in a Stevens or Savage of those calibers I'd like to hear your inputs. I'm mainly interested in accuracy

The twist is 1:9 for the .223 and 1:12 for the 22-250

i have a stevens 200 in .223 and it shoots most anything pretty well. i shot alot of FMJ 55gr through it did impressively. hornady factory ammo through this gun is superb too i've been shooting 40gr Vmax's out of it with impressive results but i'm thinking about switching to heavier ammo in the 1:9 twist. I'm a newbie also when it comes to this mostly shooting hornady ammo and cheap stuff at targets. Try the hornady stuff and you wont be disappointed.

I have a 12vlp 9 twist in .223.Shoots 68,69,75's lights out. Hornady 55 v-max group about an inch, everything lighter,1.5'' or worse.Blackhills shoot great and the hornady tap fpd 75's are unbelievable.Obviously your gun may be different, kind of surprised mine likes the 75's so much

mine liked remington umc 45 gr hp, 50 gr hp, 55 gr fmj. i shot fiochi 50 gr v max. it liked them all i sighted ir in with 50 gr hp and it shot all of them about the same under an inch in most cases

Had a Stevens 22-250 that shot well with the Win White Box 45gr. My 223 have never been used with factory ammo other than free mil. stuff.

I'm thinking the Hornady 55gr V-max may be the ammo I'll start off with. I see Cabelas has it so hopefully my stores down here will be able to get it if they don't already

My Stevens 200 in .22-250 likes 50 gr Hornady V-Max, 50 gr Rem accutip, 45 gr hp winchester white box, 55 gr winchester grey box softpoints, and 50 gr Rem UMC HP. all of those will group under an inch in my rifle. Mine seems to favor most 45 to 50 grain bullets. The only load it shot over an inch was the 55 grain federal blue box "vital shock" ammo and 55 grain Remington core lokts. Those both grouped around an inch and a half to two inches. I really like my stevens 200 and plan on getting another one in .243 soon cause I dont like the looks of the new edge very much.

I strongly beleive some of the best factory ammo is from black hills. When my 223 wasn't shooting well many people told me to buy black hills and dont look back.
