Savage Striker suggestions?

OK, a bit of background. A number of years ago, I purchased a Savage Striker(bolt action pistol), in 308 Win, for deer hunting. At the time WI had areas for deer hunting that were shotgun/muzzleloader/pistol only, so I got the Striker, to get some extra range in the firearms restricted areas. A few years ago the Republicans took over the state house, and removed the restrictions, so I haven't used the Striker since. Sooooo, I think I need to convert it to something a bit more recoil friendly. I would still like to hunt deer with it, but it would probably go predator hunting, where a shotgun was the primary, but in case of long range stare off, I could wipe that smile right off Wiley's face. The 308 Win is a beast in that platform, and I have never been able to find scope rings that can keep the scope from canting after a few shots...And I have three Warne Maxs on there now. I have gone through Leupold, and Burris, rings before the Warnes, and nothing has held the Burris Pistol(LER) scope for long...

Anyway, I was thinking the 6mm WOA would be perfect, except I don't think Savage has a bolt head for that case rim dimension. I have bolt heads for both .473"(i.e. 308 Win case), .378"(i.e. 223 Rem. case), IIRC the case rim dimension for 6.8 SPC, and wildcats of this case, is .422". So after all of that text, the question is, are there any suggestions for a mild mannered 6mm cartridge suitable to be loaded up for deer, and down for predators, with either a .473", or .378" case rim dimension? The .243 Win, is probably too much, and the 6-223, too little. Maybe something like a 6x47 or a 6-250?

Thoughts?

I would just download the 243
I just bought a striker in 243 and have shot it very little but recoil isn't bad at all with 75gr bulletts
 
You could do a 22-250 and have a hot one. You could get a 6.8 bolt head from PT&G and put a 6X6.8 on it and be able to work over the critters with plenty of performance not having to fight muzzle blast.

I have older XP-100-- 7Int --- dies and some brass is available --

6mm-250 is easy, it will do 90% of a .243win with less powder,and muzzle blast. I built a rifle in 6mm-250 and can get 3600 fps from 75g v-max bullets. I loaded some 85g sierra HPGK to 3150fps (mild load) just before deer season. It is very accurate but I didn't get to shoot anything with it. It is very easy to form, just run 22-250 brass into a 6mm-250 die, load, repeat........

I just turned my Striker 308 into a 22-250 AI very little recoil and it's a coyote hammer.. I let a 12 year old shoot it over Christmas his 1st shot at 600 yards hit the gong..

OK, I will bite. I went to the PT&G site, and that solves the bolt head issue. I see Midway has the extractor/ejector parts. Any suggestions on a 6x6.8 barrel? How different is that compared to a 6mm WOA? Different shoulder angle? Who has dies? I do have Forster 6mm WOA dies, so I am guessing the seater will work, but I will probably need a FL sizing die, correct?

The barrels are available from Black Hole and Ritch can get them for you at a savings. He designed it for them with a bit of help from me in development.

The 6X6.8 is a straight neck down on the 6.8 case. No change in shoulder angle or height unlike the 6 WOA. Capacity is obviously slightly greater than the WOA.

Sizing dies are a 6.8 Redding Type S FL die with a single bushing step down, we usually go with two, or a "6 MM REMINGTON SPC" sizer from CH4D. They make brass slick as cat gut. I provided them with the reamer print so they have the perfect dimensions for the BHW chamber.

Yes your seater will work. We are using Hornady generics across the board with good results.
