Savage v. Marlin

Hi guys,
I thought I had posted this, but I can't find it anywhere. I apologize if I asked this in an earlier post.
I would like to know if there have been any comparisons between the Marlin and Savage .17HMR rifles anywhere on this site? Links or magazine articles would be nice too.
I did do a search, but couldn't find any thread anywhere comparing the Marlin & Savage .17HMRs:
For now, I'm not interested in the Ruger (too expensive compared to the S. or M. that does the same job) or CZ. I have found that the Marlins and Savages will shoot every bit as well as the shooter can shoot them, especially with a trigger change, which almost all the rimfires need.
So, what would you buy, Savage or Marlin? Why?
Thanks a bunch!!!!

I've had the Savage, Marlin and an Anschutz Meistergrade. The Marlin shot the best groups consistantly. I had the triggers on all three set at right around 1.5 #. Rifle Basix makes a trigger for the Savage. I'm not sure about the Marlin. If you hose up a trigger job, ask me how I know, on the Marlin the trigger and sear can only be purchased by an FFL from either Marlin or Brownells.

I've yet to see any of the rifles chambered in 17HMR not shoot great. A friend has a Handy Rifle that shoots sub-MOA. I would get what you like best and can justify spending the money on.

Cheers!

I have the Marlin VS and it shoots very well. Rifle Basix offers a trigger that is suppose to bring in down under 2lbs. Have seen good reviews on it.

Take care!

I bought the Marlin, and it shoot great, have a friend with a Marlin and one with a Savage. Both also shoot great. I don't think you can go wrong with either. The friend with the Savage wanted it because of the magazine not protruding so far, but there are people who shorten the Marlin clips also.
