Saw through a Trijicon today..

I was in Corpus doing some follow up doing follow up docs appointment with my father and well since deer season is around the corner we decided to go look at some optics.. I am getting a grendel here pretty soon and wanted to get a Trijicon 1-4 green chevron scope for it, the problem was that I had never seen through one.. well to say that I liked it is a complete and totally an understatement. I saw the light

these optics are wow.. I was OK with the quality in the store but when the guy at the counter said.. check these outside.. I was blown away.. I may be a little crazy being that I am even considering of selling my S&B and replacing it with a lower power Accupoint like a 2.5-10 and getting the 1-4 for my grendel. I may just be losing it but the S&B is way overkill for both my .308 and the grendel. most of my shots are within 200 yards I don't compete so.. the S&B might go..

Trijicon makes very nice stuff. No question. But, I'm not a fan of anything lighted in a scope. It darkens your target. I have an AR for Dept use that has one and it's great for a man sized target. I prefer cross hairs for distance and clarity.

Whew! I thought maybe you got ticked at your Trigicon and cut it up with something like a hacksaw.

I will admit I was kinda hoping that was the case. I'd like to see the internals.

yes and no, you can close the light "window" down and it will look like a regular crosshair during bright sunlight, but when you get into low light conditions the dot is tritium powered so it always glows. but it glows very dim so it does not wash out the target light many battery powered lighted reticles.

and yes the optics are super nice!!!

I have a 1.25x-4x on a 375 and love it. I use the post/triangle reticle. Our recent moose season was too warm to get the bulls to respond to calls. After working on a nice bull for 5 hours, he responded near dark as the day cooled. I had to use a headlamp to butcher.

I don't see how this "lighted reticle" darkens the target.

Yes, you can reduce the daylight entering the fiber optic during bright daylight but I haven't found a need to. At night the tritium cell takes over and keeps the triangle bright. There are no batteries or lights involved.

I had a 2.5-10 accupoint and sold it to a member on the forum here. It was surprisingly good quality and although it wasn't on par with a NF or Swaro it was definitely better than my VX-III stuff... Top notch glass!

I guess I will know a little more about Trijicon accupoint after tomorrow....I will have my hands on a 5-20X50 by then and will see how she looks.

Really... I didn't want to talk you into it but I think you will be pleased! Make sure you have it with you the next time we get together, I haven't had my hands on the 5-20 yet.

Check out the 3-9 power for less money and weight. I have a TR20-1 with the amber dot crosshair sitting on my 6.8 and it's great.
I also have a TR24-3 on my stag carbine. It has the German #4 with an amber dot.
I sold a TR 24G because I found out that the triangle post reticle wasn't to my liking for hunting.
These are great scopes for hunting IMO.

I love my 3x9x40 green mil dot, glass is very clear and crisp, probably better then my Nightforce. The dot never does seem too bright for me, but you can turn the rear housing to cover up the fiber optics.

As for lighted reticles being to bright, I can agree on some other scopes I've tried where their battery powered and are adjustable and can be too bright, especially if the whole cross hair illuminates. Thats why I like my trijicon green dot, it's small and just lights up where I want that bullet to go, not the whole cross hair that can take away from the image of the animal your shooting.

Too bad they don't offer their #4 reticle as an option in the 3-9x or 2.5-10x Accupoints. The MD ain't a bad 2nd choice, but the #4 would be my preferred reticle on a basic hunting rig...

I think the VX-III is overrated IMHO, I have used them before and I think the cheapest conquest is better.. at least for my eyes.. It is a good sigh of relief that these scopes have good feedback.. can't wait to get it..

What was the verdict? Did you like it?

I kind of went the chevron route because we have a lot of hogs that we need to take out.. and I felt that low powered and chevron makes rapid target acquisition... I looked through an aimpoint which was my first option.. the trijicon quickly overshadowed it..

That is a bold statement, being better than Nightforce, although I can relate to some extent cause these things are CLEAR!

I agree that it's crazy to consider it.. but If I don't take 1k shots or even anything above 300 for the norm.. I don't see going 165mph when the vw can cruise easily at 75mph. Believe me for my application the S&B is too much..
